I bought my first Ball Python, he is healthy and eating well, he is so interesting. For size yes he is a baby though he had been well taken care of. The store informed me that they had fed him and what they were feeding him. I got a care guide and a lot of friendly advice from the store. I will of course always go to pet smart for my pet needs.

I have two ball pythons! One normal male and one lemon blast female. These snakes are just awesome for people who like to sit around and read or play video games. My snakes are content with sitting around my arms and neck while I do homework or whatever I happen to need to get done.

I no longer keep Ball Pythons. I used to keep a large collection of reptiles now I just have one snake, she is a Boa Constrictor. I kept Boas, Reticulated Pythons, Cornsnakes, Ball Pythons, Blue Tongue Skunks, and Leopard Geckos. Out of all of the past experience. My very first snake was a Ball Python when I was 8 years old. They are very calm and easy snakes! They are very heavy bodied and slow, they makes good pets if you want a slow and lazy animal to chill and watch t.v. with. They are fairly easy to setup and not a very high maintenance pet. I got my very first Ball Python from petsupplycanada. I now get most of my animals from reputable breeders but petsupplycanada is what started my love for reptiles. The only con to owning Ball Pythons in my opinion is that they can be picky eaters and sometimes will go months off feeding, but it is completely normal and common, another issue that has to do with feeding is the fact that sometimes they don’t like taking frozen thawed food. Lots of timea you will have to feed them live.

We have had our boy for about 2 months now and love him he is very calm and never struck at anyone even having to give him shots about a month after we got him he got sick. Only think I can say is go ahead and buy the 40gal terrium because we were told the 20 would last for several years but he grew quick and is already as long as the 20 gal tank it was as if he just shot up really quick after getting out of the tiny tank they had him in. Good luck if your getting one also there awesome pets.

i bought my baby python a month ago and the first thing they told me is that she was not eating and that she will eat when she gets more comfortable in her new habitat and told me that she will eat in 3-2 days so i tried feeding her live and frozen and she never ate and she started acting very different she wasn’t active anymore and she barely came out of her wood log and she wouldn’t sit under her lamp anymore i found her lifeless and im very disgusted about how they could lie to someone about there animals conditions

I breed ball pythons and usually refuse to purchase from petsupplycanada due to questionable practices and sourcing. Unfortunately, I caved when my fiancé fell in love with a sweet little girl. I should’ve known better when the staff at the store couldn’t distinguish between the three available animals’ charts- even with detailed sketches of each snake’s head stamp. The snake appeared to be eating well (based off the chart they thought was hers) but as soon as we brought her home, she wouldn’t eat.
We brought her to the vet twice, tried everything in the book to convince her to eat, and she still refused. Today, after four months, vet bills, and trying everything the vet and I knew, we are euthanizing her. She is so severely emaciated she can’t pass waste or drink on her own.
I’m very upset that we purchased this animal, fell in love with her, and gave her everything only for her to refuse food. I wish petsupplycanada had been more responsible.

A friend and I were in petsupplycanada today looking at the ball pythons because I’m thinking about getting another one. While we were in there we asked to hold and look at some of the ball pythons they had on display. Upon handling the one that looked to be only 2 months old at most, you could tell it was severely dehydrated and had stuck shed. The skin of this poor animal looked like how cracked dried lips look in the winter. My friend could tell that this animals wasn’t right even though they know almost nothing about these animals, just by the look of its skin. The associate told us that this particular animal had been with the for roughly a month. Based on this experience at petsupplycanada and the poor care of this animal, I will no longer give my business to them.

Depending on your snakes age they can fast for up to 2 years, if your snake is older then just a couple months they aren’t gonna feed every single 5 ish days, there are charts online about how much they eat depending on the age and it can go up to 21-50 days after 5 years old, don’t worry if your new snake won’t touch its food because it’s most likely stressed out. Don’t try and handle them within the first week of getting them because that can stress them out aswell

I purchased a male ball python a few years ago, he was the sweetest little man I could ever hope for in a snake! All of the people leaving negative reviews-they don’t understand snakes! They’re not dogs or cats, you’re lucky if they let you hold them. Please before you adopt a snake, understand what creature is relying on you to stay alive and understand why they might be uncomfortable or scared. 5/5 stars for petsupplycanada, 0/5 stars for the idiots that think they know what they’re doing.

I bought my little boy Vinny from petsupplycanada back in November of ’14 on a random impulse. (“Hey, you know what’d be cool? Buying a snake!”) I bought the deluxe snake starter kit, a few packs of fuzzies and small mice, etc. Right now, he’s crawling around the base of my laptop and occasionally he’ll try to type for me. He loves to curl up next to me or wrap around my wrist like a watch would be. He’s my little butterball lol. I’m so glad I purchased him, he keeps me happy. The only thing that annoys me is sometimes ball pythons will go on a “feeding strike” and refuse to eat, and I’ve encountered that. He didn’t eat for about a whole month, but i offered him a live mouse and he got back on track. That was fun…

Both of the Ball pythons I’ve got from petsupplycanada have been perfectly healthy and are just over a year old at this point. When I got my babies I watched every video on YouTube about their care and different recommended types of setups for them. The care guide they have above is well outdated material and we now have much better resources for their care (Snakediscovery onYoutube is a resource I use) the 40 gallon tank is ridiculous, your snake should be able to stretch out fully along the front and one side of the enlcoser. Some balls can grow larger then the 40 gallon and babies could be difficult to locate. You can house juvenile ball pythons in smaller setups, but nothing less then a 20 gallon is really appropriate. You can do different setups according to your preferences but some good rules are just to offer two hides at least (one on the warm end and one on the cool end) always check water condition (use reptisafe or whatever dechlorinator) offer a little cover for your danger noodle (they like to hide) and something to climb on. But please for the love of god don’t use a heat lamp for your ball pythons. Most YouTubers and people I know who own snakes don’t recommend using a heat lamp for ball pythons and I don’t use one myself. They’re very difficult to regulate heat with and directing that much bright light into your snakes face can stress them out as they are nocturnal by nature and need to be warmed during the day not night. Instead use a heating mat underneath their enclosure along with a thermostat and probe. Also don’t use reptile carpet for reptiles. At all. They don’t have carpet in the wild stop being lazy, try a variety of substrates and use one that works with your pet and your environment.

Got my baby ball python a couple days ago after doing research and I noticed their advice and care guide they give you is very general to pet snakes but not specific to what you’re buying, they recommend a heat mat but no thermostat which can burn the snake, they recommended a heat lamp as well but ball pythons don’t really need an overhead heat source they need just the belly heat, the care guide says they feed once every 1 – 2 weeks but a baby python still growing can eat up to 2 times a week in some cases. Also says you need a water dish big enough to soak in but ball pythons aren’t really the type of snake to soak in water so it’s unnecessary. Great animal but from research I’ve done, the advice isn’t the best

I got my snake, Hank, after I completed my classes, so I thought “Hey, I passed everything, how about I get that snake I’ve always wanted!” So I went down to petsupplycanada, and asked if there were any snakes for sale. They showed me a little python, and warned me that he was a little temperamental. I bought him, and now he couldn’t be happier. He likes to sit on my Xbox while I play games, and luckily, he hasn’t gone on a food strike, so I feed him mice that I’ve breed for his food.

We did have some issues trying to feed the snake. Eventually after two weeks he/she finally ate without an issue. It is very important for people to do their research before jumping into the snake. After reviewing some of the negative comments on here, clearly some people didn’t do the research. Snakes can go on a hunger strike, and they will not eat if they are stressed. You are bringing them into a new environment and it takes them a bit to get adjusted to their surrounding.
As for a negative review for the snake the only thing I wish was they would tell you what the gender of the snake is before purchasing.

They also didn’t know the gender or wouldn’t tell me when I first got her so I had to find out on my own. Other than those two issues she is so amazing. 🙂 Thumbs up!

We LOVE Razor as she enjoys exploring all over us, but she won’t eat! She’s in seemingly good health, looks good, is active, & drinks water. The store we got her from first told us that she(?) hadn’t eaten the whole month she was there, then they said she HAD one time. We dislike that we can’t get any background info, age, eating prefrences, exact eating times, etc.

We got our snake from petsupplycanada and he is such an awesome addition to our house. He’s happy and healthy! He’s a great eater and very sweet. He’s never bitten and has seemed to warm up to us quickly. He is not a picky eater – however we did learn that he was being under fed (10-15% of body weight should be food) so we upped him from eating 1 to eating 3 mice. Other than that, great pet! We also noticed that he was in his hide most of the time – we bought vines with leaves on them and added all over his terrerium – since then he seems happier and is RARELY in his hides 🙂

I’m not quite sure what their gender is, yet, but, possibly she may be a female. Nevertheless, I love her very much, and I’m so glad that she is adjusting to her new home comfortably!

It has been almost a year since I bought my ball python. I had wanted one for a while but never had the chance until then. When I got her the worker had me a little nervous when talking about the behavior and how he wasn’t sure of the snake because they weren’t handled much. So the first week I didn’t hold her much.(which I found out was ideal anyway) As well as when I got her they didn’t know the gender I did research and assumed. I love this snake now she has never tried to bite. She is vary social and loves sleeping on my chest. Everyone who has met her who was scared of snakes immediately fell in love with her as well. Please get the right tank size and try sizing up. I have a 40 gal (thats what the worker recommended)but she’s just a baby and I know I’m going to have to get a 120 or bigger soon. So know the room it’s going to take up and love your animal!

We purchased our girl Cora about a month ago for my son. The associate at petsupplycanada gave us a lot of helpful tips on helping her to get acclimated to her new environment. He also warned us that she had been returned due to temperament problems, but assured us that it was probably from her previous owners trying to handle her too soon. She’s been such a joy to have and my son has already spoiled her rotten. She’s comfortable being handled and her feeding is amazing. I’m glad we chose her.

But I still decided to take him home. I was so happy that with just after 3-4 days of being in his new home with me he ATE his fuzzy! He’s a good boy!! Has NEVER bitten me or even indicated that he will strike. Loves being handled and will even “ball up” underneath the blanket right next to me for movie/cuddle time! I take him out about mid week after feeding him, making sure he has time to digest and sleep first. He loves to slither around my arms or on my blanket. Even my 7 year old niece, and 5 year old nephew adore him. I’ll carefully let them hold him. I’m really happy I got him

The article is pretty accurate except for two things, 1. Feed a baby Ball Python every 5 to 7 days, not 2 or 3 times per week. And 2. Forgot heating. Every Ball Python needs a heat source, babies can have the heat under the belly or on the side in back of enclosure. But, if you are using a terrarium style enclosure it should be belly heat. If you have a collection or are planning on having more than one Ball Python, a rack with plastic tubs is recommended and with those(depending on where you buy your rack from) the manufacturer of said rack may install the heat tape under the belly or running down back of the rack. With babies, it’s recommended you not handle your new Ball Python until it starts feeding while in your care, unless you know a Ball Python breeder, retail establishments that sell Ball Pythons will most likely not feed your snake because the baby can regurgitate its food. Adults need belly heat because the heat helps them digest there food better. Babies do fairly well around 77 to 80 degree hot spot, adults around 80 to 85 degree hot spot, breeding Ball Python females that are gravid should be at about a 90 degree hot spot. Any one looking to get any kind of pet whether mammal or reptile should to the responsible thing and at the very least pick up a BOOK. For example, anyone looking to pick up even a normal Ball Python, i.e. “normal” meaning carries no other genetics like an Albino or Piebald, just to name two of the hundreds of recessive morphs; not to mention the thousands of genetic mutations seen in Ball Pythons, should pick up one of the Ball Python books at the retail petshop they are shopping at. Or go online and do a search for “Basic Ball Python husbandry and care”.

When I first got “Koko”, he was so small and fit in the palm of my hand (balled up). He was so cute! After a few years, he eventually got up to about 4.5-5 ft. I kept him in a 40gal. reptile tank w/locking screen lid, so no escapes. His tank was set up with the works and he was a happy, very calm snake to own. However, he unfortunately preferred the live mice over the frozen/thawed, but as my pet, I kept him fed what he wanted. 🙂 Sadly, I moved to a place where he was misjudged and not allowed, so had to rehome him. I miss him and now that I am about to move to a more tolerant place, I plan on getting another one, just like him. 🙂 Or as close as I can get, lol. I highly recommend these as pets. 🙂

The only problem is that these guys get pretty big, so if you don’t have the space then I would recommend a corn snake or a hog nose snake. Also ball pythons and many other snakes tend to go on hunger strikes so if your a beginner you should really do your research on this topic. Wow. It is incredible the amount of wrong or misleading information in these comments. The one stating that ball pythons do not soak to prepare for sheds? I own SEVERAL lol and everyone of them will soak in their water dish prior to a shed. Do they NEED this. No. Not if you keep the humidity in the tank at a proper level. But Saying that they don’t soak is stupid because they DO! Next, saying NOT to have a light. Also. WRONG. lol. Once again, do you NEED it? No. Will it stress the snake out? NO keep it on a timer that co-insides with the normal day/night cycle and they will be fine. In the wild they survive just fine with daytime and night time LOL! Next. Claiming a 10g tank is sufficient. Once again. They WILL live in it and for the most part won’t complain or leave a bad review of their accommodations on TripAdvisor or Google. However IF you want to have a PROPER set up to keep your snake happy it is literally impossible to have a HOT and COLD side in a 10g tank, there is not enough room for ambient temperature to fluctuate from one side to the other. But yes, your snake will survive. EVERY snake is different. From their feeding needs, temperament, handling etc. I suggest reading and watching multiple videos with care information FIRST. Then purchase your snake with the minimum requirements and take a couple months to watch how it interacts with its environment. If you notice they are out a lot roaming and exploring, try adding more branches or rocks for them to climb and explore. always make sure to have a decent amount of plants and foliage for them to use as cover since they do tend to avoid being out in the open and prefer to lurk in the shadows. As for feeding. pretty much every care sheet you read say to keep a schedule. I personally do not. I like to provide a similar environment in my enclosures to their real life habitats and same with feeding. In the wild they do not have a schedule, they eat when they are able to hunt down a meal. And honestly I fins that my snakes tell ME when they want food. They all have specific behaviours that I have picked up on which show me when they are hungry. Watch your pet. Learn their specific needs, you’ll have a much better experience and so will your snake.

I gave the review 4 starts because when I got him, he looked malnourished.. very thin instead of that nice round shape, colors were not bright. They couldn’t tell me the gender either.

I bought a ball python thinking it was perfectly fine and healthy, but two week of failing of attempting to feed it,nothing ever worked. Come to find out, keep in mind I found out after the purchase that this baby python I bought has never been fed, only surviving off the yolk of the egg. Pathetic. So I took it back, but overall the snake was very friendly and I actually got pretty connected with it and I am very very upset to let her go.

I got him Feburary 2nd, 2019. They are very high maintenance, make sure you do plenty of research first. They are cheap but all of the supplies adds up quick. He is very spoiled. I take him out about mid week after feeding him, making sure he has time to digest and sleep first. He loves to slither around my arms or on my blanket. Even my 7 year old niece, and 5 year old nephew adore him. I’ll carefully let them hold him. I’m really happy I got him

Bought my ball python on March 25,2022 from the petsupplycanada on watt avenue. He had not been fed since he has just arrived the week prior. He I’m saying he because i dont know what it is, unfortunately they don’t tell you the age or the gender of the snakes. Im positive it’s a juvenile, he happy and healthy he ate with no problem on Monday and then again on Thursday. I have been holding him daily and he’s a little jumpy but very curious. He spends an equal amount of time in his hide as he does exploring and drinking water. He also yawns a lot it’s so cute. petsupplycanada gets a bad rep for reptiles but so far I have no problems.

We dislike that we can’t get any background info, age, eating prefrences, exact eating times, etc.

Most snake breeders say you really should get snakes from pet stores but that isn’t always true. I got my snake from the pet store and he was perfectly healthy even though he was a little on the skinny side, he is a good eater and has shed recently without any problems. So it is safe to say you can get a snake from a pet store if you know what to look for in a snake.

I gave the review 4 starts because when I got him, he looked malnourished.. very thin instead of that nice round shape, colors were not bright. They couldn’t tell me the gender either. Best decision I’ve ever made, getting my sweet boy! Definitely do not regret it!

Only think I can say is go ahead and buy the 40gal terrium because we were told the 20 would last for several years but he grew quick and is already as long as the 20 gal tank it was as if he just shot up really quick after getting out of the tiny tank they had him in.

Ball pythons are amazing! Mine is very social and likes to explore outside his cage and loves people! The only problem is that these guys get pretty big, so if you don’t have the space then I would recommend a corn snake or a hog nose snake. Also ball pythons and many other snakes tend to go on hunger strikes so if your a beginner you should really do your research on this topic. Overall, these are great snakes and they are very pretty too.

Within their pictures of the habitat for the animal they are unable to show they know how to take care of the pet. The first visible problem is that the tank uses a lamp as a heating source where a snake takes in the necessary heat through their belly so this snake is unable to gain that necessity and will likely be stressed out causing it to be aggressive. They clearly are unable to take care of the reptile and this has the potential to have it be very aggressive towards the new owner.

I bought my female ball Python from pet smart recently, and have found her to be wonderful! She’s got a great spicy temperament as I was informed, and very gentle all the same. The information given to me about her was nearly complete (forgot to ask for her age) with a quick phone call I was able to estimate her emerging day around my own birthday. This was a dream pet of mine and she was still there weeks later. It was sincerely meant to be. She’s in a huge happy enclosure, awaiting foliage cover.

Baby ball pythons need only a 10 gallon tank, and adults males can do fine in a 20-30gallon tank, whereas females do best in 30-40 gallon tanks. Aspen bedding doesn’t hold humidity well, go with Forest Floor Cypress Mulch. Ball pythons need at least 2 hides (plastic, wood can mold). They do not need a heat lamp, only need a heating map and a ceramic heating bulb (CHE). No lights, they are nocturnal and lights will stress them out.

I got my ball python a few months ago and I was so excited for him to come home with me and live a great long life. I had him in a 40 gallon tank with accurate heating/ humidity, substrate, places to hide and things to climb on. He seemed kinda off from the get go but I figured he just needed some getting used to. I was told when I got him that he should be eating pinky mice and I questioned it because of his size at the time but I decided to go with what I was told. It was completely wrong. Not only was it hard to get him to eat the pinkies but after talking to many people who specialize with reptiles/snakes I learned that he had been underfed because of his size compared to the tiny pinkies. I eventually couldn’t get him to eat pinkies OR small fuzzies and even tried a live feed. I tried everything in the books to get him back to health whether it was changing his temp/humidity, changing the type of bedding in his home, trying different ways of feeding the frozen/thawed mouse, nothing worked. He was probably not even a year old and he passed away yesterday. I like to search for flaws in the ways I took care of him but I did everything I could and dedicated a ton of time and money only for him to not be able to make it. I have a strong bond with all of my animals whether it be a fish or a dog and it hurt to feel like I failed him. I believe he was not properly taken care of before I bought him because I was fed false information before bringing him home. I did my own research but figured it was best to do what the pet store told me since they know what he’s used to as far as care. That was a big red flag. Along with this I also purchased my “fancy” bearded dragon from them back in July/August and although he is doing wonderful he is most definitely NOT fancy. He is a very happy friendly lizard but is mostly gray and has next to no color anywhere on him. I waisted spending extra money for a fancy bearded dragon that turned out to just be regular.

My oldest sister has a ball python snakes have a horrible reputation Salazar Slytherin is so sweet they cuddle up with you, just like dogs, but in a cute reptilian way they don’t typically buy it unless you annoy it and it might be a little bit bitey at first but once they get to know you they don’t really buy it and they’re super Duper sweet. I definitely recommend getting a ball python if you are looking for a snake friend!

He also warned us that she had been returned due to temperament problems, but assured us that it was probably from her previous owners trying to handle her too soon. I LOVE my boy! If I’m being honest, I got my boy about 3 years ago. I gave the review 4 starts because when I got him, he looked malnourished.. very thin instead of that nice round shape, colors were not bright. They couldn’t tell me the gender either. Best decision I’ve ever made, getting my sweet boy! Definitely do not regret it!

They are very content in their new home but do not get your snake a heating pad for under the substrate because they don’t have heat receptors on their stomach which can cause them to get too hot but they won’t notice

I got my ball python at petsupplycanada in February 2016. Now November 2016 she is so big. I love that! She is very docile and an awesome pet snake to have. One thing they said they feed the snakes frozen mice when i went to feed her the first time she did not want anyhing to do with the dead mouse. So i went and got a live feeding mouse and she has had a healthy appetite ever since. I honestly don’t think she ever ate at petsupplycanada. But I believe she was very young so maybe she just got To petsupplycanada before i bought her…

I recently just purchased a baby Ball Python on August 27th, 2019 and in around midday. I was SO happy when I adopted my little friend! The best decision I ever made! I named my snake “Noodle”! I’m not quite sure what their gender is, yet, but, possibly she may be a female. Nevertheless, I love her very much, and I’m so glad that she is adjusting to her new home comfortably!

I got the snake and put it in the sink. Then I went buying groceries as soon as I came back the snake was in my living room and I couldnt find my daughter anymore. I have to say the snake is a beatuiful creature and still lives with me so it was probably worth it. So 150$ is definetly a fair price.

The staff I talked to were quite knowledgeable and answered pretty much all my questions. Squeezy has been an amazing addition to my family!

Don’t try and handle them within the first week of getting them because that can stress them out aswell

whoever in these comments are saying you need a 40! gallon tank is wrong or right. you actually only want a tank a little bit longer than the snake it self especially at the age pet smart sells them at

Hey I just purchased my ball python about a week ago and he is the best addition we have to our family. When we first got him he had a shed issue. But once I had him in a better home. He healthy and very active. He’s now going through his first shedding process with me so I hope he is healthy enough to shed perfectly. But over thankful for pet smart having pythons available. I recommend this as your number 1 pet adoption stop.

Apparently Ball pythons are notorious escape artists.. no mention of this to us at the time of sale.. it lifted the lid on the brand new tank we bought (specifically) made for reptiles… now it’s gone. kid’s heart broken.

They are very content in their new home but do not get your snake a heating pad for under the substrate because they don’t have heat receptors on their stomach which can cause them to get too hot but they won’t notice
