Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation. Divide the cups per day by the number of feedings per day. Be sure to always provide clean, fresh water. Along with dry food, we recommend feeding raw or wet food to help increase the amount of water in your pet’s diet.

Weight Loss (cups per day): 5 lb: 1/4 cup; 10 lb: 3/8 cup; 15 lb: 1/2 cup

Please do not buy this until the company makes the original ingredients. This food has been changed for the worst using dries pollock as a filler. Many cats are allergic to fish. They also removed the freeze dried chicken lived and heart. This food is now basically a fish food not chicken since most chicken was removed also lessening the quality of the high protein. Will not give this to my cat. Go back to original ingredients!

This food has literally been life changing for my cat. We adopted her and her brother a year ago and she has struggled with sensitive stomach issues and throwing up regularly. At the suggestion of my sister (the vet tech) we tried this food. Since the food change my cat has not puked once. Not once. She has become more social and has begun to put on a little weight (she was underweight) and spends more time with the family now that she feels better. Even my other cat has been more active and playful.
My male cat was overweight and has been losing weight now that he is getting the proper nutrition.
We are about to change our three dogs to the Instinct brand dog food and throw out any other brand of foods for these animals.
If you are looking for a good food for your pets, this would be my top recommendation.

My cats have been on this food for years. They love it, it’s very healthy and nutritious for them. We rarely have hair balls anymore.

The dry food that my cat was eating was recently discontinued, so I had to find a replacement that was comparable in ingredients and taste. Being detailed minded, I created a spreadsheet of all the chicken, grain-free or limited diet brands. Because of my boy’s allergies and digestive issues, I was left with only a few choices. I bought a few of the brands and he either got sick on the products or refused to eat them. Then there was the issue of grain-free dry cat food. My primary vet did not want him to eat grain-free products because there have been studies that say grain-free leads to heart problems. That basically left me with no choices since he has wheat, fish, milk, pork, rice and lamb allergies. So, I called my cat’s heart doctor. It seems that the heart issues, for grain-free diets, are mainly in dogs and not so much for cats. As long as there is Taurine in the product and no peas or legumes in the ingredients, then there would be very little risk of heart issues. So that left me with only one choice which was the Instinct Ultimate Protein Grain Fee Cage Free Chicken Recipe. (This is replacing the discontinued Merrrick Limited Ingredients Chicken Dry cat food). I was hoping he would like it. I opened the bag and let him smell it. That was all it took. I had to pull his head out of the bag as he liked it so much. Now, when I open the bag, he comes running. I hope this helps other cat people in their search for the right cat food.

I’ve been feeding this to my cat for the last year and she loves it. I just got two new cats and they also enjoy it.

We are at a point where our two adolescent kittens are starting on adult food. I had started them on Instinct kitten food but they didn’t “love” it, mostly picked at it. We tried two other kitten food brands that they also didn’t “love” so I was hesitant about choosing an adult brand for them. Our first furbaby was a schnauzer mixed dog who developed stomach and liver cancer in his older years so quality food that provides species appropriate nutrition is an important value to our family. When I brought the bag of food home our cats took right to it! Even picking out the ultimate protein pieces during the transition period and now that they are fully transitioned to the Instinct, they finish all of their 1/4 cup portions in between feeding times. They love it and we have noticed a difference in their coats and activity levels, they have been more playful and have better poops. While it is a little pricey, I feel good about feeding them a food that aligns with my values and a 10lb bag lasts awhile for our two cats. 10/10 recommend

I have a 10 year-old cat that will only eat kibble, so I try to find the best quality kibble possible for him. I like that this food has a very high protein content and that the first ingredient is meat. It also doesn’t have a bunch of filler ingredients in it. It’s also great that my cat loves it! He had lost weight when I tried feeding him other premium cat foods, but I didn’t want to feed him the “junk kibbles” that are out there. I was very happy to find Instinct Ultimate Protein because my cat eats enough of it to maintain a healthy weight. His coat is also soft and lustrous, and he’s doing well overall. I hope this food continues to be available long-term.

I wrote a review on the company website 4 years ago giving this product 5 stars. There was a supply issue with an ingredient, I couldn’t get any bags for MONTHS, and I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to get it anymore. I said how grateful I was for this food because it was the “only dry food that I have found that doesn’t have any of the ingredients that [my cat] is allergic to.” I mentioned that she has “allergies to all of the common fillers and to fish, including fish oil” so “finding anything that my cat can eat (wet, dry, treats) is incredibly difficult. (She is picky too.)”

I was happy to finally find a product that was grain free for our cats. They have been very picky eaters in the past and love this stuff! We will continue to use this as our dry cat food along with wet on a daily basis.

One of my cats is a very picky eater. The other of my cats will eat literally anything you put in front of his face, but is mildly allergic to most cat foods. After trying dozens of brands and varieties (including other Instinct products!), this is the only cat food that both my picky cat is excited and happy to eat, and my allergy boy doesn’t have a reaction to. And it ‘s healthy for them to boot! This food is a miracle for me.

Tried different dried food and wet food and my cats love this stuff. Even with the recent change in formula they still only want it! I give them a bowl in the morning and then some fancy feast wet food at night for dinner. One cat likes the instinct dry more than wet food.
