I line the bottom with timothy hay — it’s soft, smells good, and is easy to remove and replace.

I rescued a stray puppy that I cannot bring inside. When the weather was turning 24 degrees over night, I thought twice about leaving him in the so called ‘great for all weather’ dog house. So instead, input him in the hay stall with a heat lamp and put a thermometer inside the dog house. It was just as cold in the dog house as it was outside. All this house is good for is to protect from wind/ rain…. NOT freezing weather. DISAPPOINTED

We have two dogs and they each have their own Petmate Indigo dog house. One medium and one large. They are very solid and rain can not enter the vent or where the top fastens to the base. The vestibule style entrance helps keep wind and weather from the main bed area and they are made in USA.

Bought the XL size my dog is 110p. Keeps him dry and warm inside
Sydney Syd (verified owner) –
Very nice dog house for my Aussie. The only problem was, it did water in the door opening.
Dogus (verified owner) –
I want to get my cat to sleep in the igloo so he has a safe place to rest if the weather is cold or rainy. It should provide him nice protection. For now, I am teaching him to eat his meals in it. He is not very brave and the igloo gives him privacy. It is nice and roomy and seems well-made.

I bought this product for my dog years ago. He loved it. Easy to set up and VERY durable. It was nice and easy to clean. Kept my husky cool in the summerKept out a lot of bugs. After he died we just broke it down and kept it in the garage. Ready to use when I need it again. Everyone needs one. Its the best!!
Neo1 (verified owner) –
Good dog house only complaint is the entrance is too small(short) and i got the extra large version. I also bought the pad for it which raises the floor an inch. The small entrance is what keeps my dog from going in. When he is inside he has plenty of room though.
Susie q 123 (verified owner) –
These are hot inside in the summer offering no shade and in the winter these retain absolutely no warmth for the animal, they freeze to death in this product! NO ONE should have these for their pet. They should be illegal
DerrickD (verified owner) –
I got the XL house for my almost 2 year old GSD. I had doubts he would fit but he did. Aside from a small crack on the bottom, I am am overall satisfied with it. Ash loves it too
Burgerlover (verified owner) –
The mid sized “igloo” is just right for our Corgi and after asking the advice of one of the stores dog people, tried putting our dogs favorite bed in the house along with a treat so that it would seem like “her house”. Instant success! She slept in it the first night it was in her backyard and seemed to be perfectly happy with it. I was concerned about the entire thing as she is a little picky and had never had a dog house. She was always happy to sleep outside with just her bed regardless of the weather.
LoveMyPets (verified owner) –
My German Shepherd loves it! Recommend highly for your pet.

Husky is loving the “den”, she goes and finds “dens” in the house, one in a closet and more recently under my bed. I do see a lot of people complaining about the latches, and yes by looking at them you would think you pry those up, however that is wrong you manipulate the black part that snaps into those. You’d think igloo would let people know with a sticker attachment to the item, but for some reason they don’t seem to mind people breaking their item. People say the heat in those are bad but my deck is direct sunlight and when it gets too much I always find her in the doghouse in the shade and when she hears me open the door she comes running in. Great product if you know how everything works and you don’t break it.

I just bought one last night for my brothers 10 yr old black lab that he just adopted. I told him that due to its unique shape, its suppose to be warmer on the inside then the outside. Last night my brother put a thermometer in it and sure enough, the outside temp was 45 degrees, the inside was 65 degrees. The only problem we have is trying to get the dog out of it. He will not leave it,bless his heart. And that makes me feel good
DeaconBlue (verified owner) –
I just bought an X-Large for my Lab-chow-akita-dachsund-sharpeii-corgi-hog mix. She weighs about 75 lbs. and fit right in.
Dregdot (verified owner) –
Like a previous reviewer, I bought this for the outside feral cats that have nowhere to go. I know two of them are sleeping inside and we have been having below freezing temperatures. It works great, I put a bed and a heating pad inside and so far so good.
Anonymous (verified owner) –
I have ordered three of these total now, and they are nice houses. However, the first one could not be snapped together even with three people working with it; the vent was broken out on the second one; and the third one could not be assembled because one of the snaps was broken off. If you want one of these houses I’d recommend that you find a store that has them in stock and do NOT leave with it unassembled!
SDLH (verified owner) –
My only complaint about the dog-loo is it doesn’t come with a door. The ones you can purchase (but I haven’t seem them at petsupplycanada) are flimsy and plastic. With harsh winters, this isn’t sufficient for our dog.
marg204 (verified owner) –
we use this outside for the feral cats we feed so they have someplace to stay in the bad weather, its good for them, our dogs stay inside
Posty (verified owner) –
This is a great house that doesn’t attract spiders, which is really important for me and it cleans easily. It is a very sturdy house that lasts a long, long time. We had one before that lasted over ten years!
Husky momma (verified owner) –
We bought the largest one 4 years ago for my husky. We placed hay inside and he loves it. He prefers sleeping in it vs hay bed in our heated garage in the winter. If it’s warm he will sleep in the “door/opening” during the summer months. It has held up over time. He sometimes stands on top of it too! So it’s quite durable.
mama91 (verified owner) –
we wanted a more water proof house and this is it. Not all the dogs have tried it, but 2 out of 3 is great. We bought little ones one, they share during the day just like in the last one. We need to get new pads for it and the pups are set for cooler weather.
Corrine (verified owner) –
This dog house is fantastic but we don’t actually use it for our dogs. It’s used by our sulcata tortoise, Sheldon, in his outdoor enclosure. We fill the bottom with a sand and loam substrate, create a ramp for easy access, and it’s a great secure hide for him to get out of the rain or take a break from basking in the sun. He loves it!!
RufusIrvin (verified owner) –
I knew that this was the dog house that I wanted and am very happy with it. It gives extra protection from the weather and is comfortable for my grandsons dog. Roomy enough that he can crawl in with his dog too.
Lacomjo (verified owner) –
Works great for our feral cat now weather is about to change. Very roomy. Got the medium one for 89.00 on sale. Nobody could match and shocked what I got it for!
Sara1981 (verified owner) –
We bought two of these in the extra large for our golden retrievers. I like the offset entrance so the dogs can curl up on the other side and stay out of the wind. The vent could use some improvement as it seems really cheap and doesn’t open and close very easily but I still think it will work fine. The thing I think needs the most improvement is the top and bottom pieces don’t fit together snugly. There is a bit of a gap, some houses have a bigger gap than others, between the two pieces. They might let in a draft. However, our dog pens are sheltered from the wind on three sides already so I don’t think it will be much of a problem unless it lets in snow. I wouldn’t let these issues discourage you from buying, but check it over closely before you buy.

CritterKeeper123 (verified owner) –
I bought this for my backyard for the hot days and harsh winters we have. This is an awesome dog house and super cozy for my dog. Its really easy to drag and move anywhere. We had a crazy rain storm not to long ago and hardly any water got in. The only part that had water was the first 4 inches on the inside which is where the dog doesn’t lay anyways. And that was without a dog door. I now purchased one to keep out the wind. It is super insulated and its really warm for the winters, which is the time my dog mostly uses it.
jbaz (verified owner) –
It looks like a kids cartoon, but the dogs like it.
Loren (verified owner) –
I absolutely love this dog house. I have a 7 month old German Shepard and she absolutely loves her new house. There have been some rainy days, and so far it has kept her dry and warm. I did purchase the Indigo Dog House Pad to go with it. It looked perfect and seemed comfy in her house. Unfortunately, she is a chewer and chewed up the pad on the second day. Safe to say she is enjoying the rough life with no pad inside. She is pretty much full grown and I ordered a Large. It’s roomy enough for her. Overall, I am extremely happy and so glad I got this for her!
horsenaround (verified owner) –
We used to have this for our lab mix. It kept her warm in winter and as long as we changed the shavings every few weeks it stayed pretty clean. It takes 2 to 3 people to move it though because there isn’t really a place to grab it. Overall a very good product.
LibertyandJustice (verified owner) –
When we first got our dog, we felt bad for her being locked up in her crate all day, so a family member gave us a kennel and we put a kiddie pool in it, one of these dog houses and a water bowl. We put in some blankets and a toy for her and she loves her kennel now. It is also very easy to assemble. It took me like five minutes to put together. I am getting another one for our deck. It is also very light and easy to move. You can just drag it across the lawn and put it wherever you want. I have recommended it to a few friends and their dogs love it.

I have a feral cat that I use this igloo for. I keep a heating pad inside during winter with a tarp over to protect frim the elements. She stays inside all winter and in summer when it rains. Where can I buy a medium size pad for the bottom? I need a really lacement but can’t find anywhere!
Steph1 (verified owner) –
Got this to protect my dog from rain . It got inside and wet his bed.
BishopsMama (verified owner) –
I bought this house because of incoming freezing temps. The house is well constructed and could have kept the wind off of my pup. However, he refused to go inside of it. I’m returning for a refund because it is too costly for my pup to only sniff it. I ended up making. a designated space in my garage for him.
Emberlynn (verified owner) –
So I have searched far and wide for the perfect dog house for my large 85lb German Shepherd who is 6 years old.
Now, this is suppose to be an extra large dog house.. biggest size I could possibly get. As I read the reviews, I thought that this would be the perfect fit- yeah no. People get an extra large dog house for their extra large dogs, right? This dog house was made for dogs (I believe) between 90-125lbs. Most dogs this big, have hip problems, which my dog does and he’s only 85lbs. He literally could not get into this house. He wanted to, but he just couldn’t. At one point, he tried to army crawl into the opening, but the base of the door opening is so high that he couldn’t even do that. Also, I don’t understand why the door and “hallway” is much shorter than the big dome area? Makes no sense to me. Why not make it all the same height all around? I feel like a Karen in this review, but I am just being honest.
Don’t get me wrong, the quality of the structure is great and the inside of this dog house is HUGE. But the opening is so unrealistic for large dogs, not to mention extra large dogs. I’m frustrated and my search continues.
Shadowsmomsantamaria (verified owner) –
I picked this up yesterday at the store curbside. One of the latches on the bottom was broken. Not sure how it will affect the performance but I’m sixty years old and don’t want to deal with finding someone to pick up and exchange for me. Other than that it was a good size for a medium dog.
Yupp (verified owner) –
We bought this igloo extra large dog house about two years ago and our dog got soaked and wet in the first rain. There were no more extra large igloo dog houses in our tidewater and Hampton Roads Area and We were desperate for a dog house for our large Italian mastiff at that time so we did not return it. We had to Cover up all the vent holes with foam all around the top and bottom of this dog house so no water would leak inside. After that, we had no more leakage problems. Very bad design there should not be any vents holes on the bottom or top of this dog house, The entry way is big enough for all the air to circulate all throughout this dog house.

I got the a few weeks ago, it is sturdy big and roomy for my 4 feral cats
KevinT (verified owner) –
It’s a great house! Both my dogs can fit in one and that’s a space saver. The downside…. THEY DO NOT MAKE DOG BEDS/MATS for this! Unbelievable
Dwayne (verified owner) –
Just what i expected. Bought the x-Large sides for my 110 lb American Bull Dog. Good fit seems to be dry and warm inside
KitBene (verified owner) –
I bought this x-large Igloo purposely for my inside cats as a play enrichment item for them added to their finished basement play-area. The cats go in and use it as a comfort place or jump on top of the igloo.
Igloohouse (verified owner) –
It seems like the perfect house for my dog. But, he has yet sat in there for over 30 seconds. I put pillows in the house and he goes in and pulls them out. Perhaps once it gets colder he might enjoy it. I will probably do an update when my dog finally stay in his house for over an hour.
jubreu (verified owner) –
My golden retriever loves his! I have the mat to insulate the cold from the house in the winter and it works very well. The house keeps my dog warm in the winter and he even likes the security of it in the summer time. (I have it under a covered patio.) I don’t have to worry about him in the winter when I’m away from the house because he will always be protected and it’s TOUGH! He tried to chew on it when he was a puppy and his chewing only affected the appearance of one place by the door.
Ernestine (verified owner) –
THE DOGHOUSE WILL BE JUST WHAT IS NEEDED FOR Chip.
xenoteke (verified owner) –
We bought the large size for our two 70lb labs and they both slept in it in the winter and it kept them warm and dry. It is difficult to move because of its awkward shape but it was possible to take it apart to clean. The little plastic door cover was immediately chewed off but we ended up noticing it wasn’t necessary thanks to the shape of the entrance. I loved this dog house right up to the point where our porch awning fell under hundreds of pounds of wet snow and shattered the dog house. I was surprised to see it had fractured into so many pieces but at least the dogs weren’t in it at the time.
ElPasoTX (verified owner) –
We bought one of these for our new Pitbull puppy and he immediately loved it. We placed his bed inside and he did not hesitate to make himself at home. Even though we keep it under the back porch, it provides him with plenty of shelter and security. The store manager snapped it in place for us before we left the store and we had no problem carrying it to the backyard.
We highly recommend this product!

Well I gave it a 4 star bc when I ordered pick up they chose me a deformed doghouse. But they switched it out with no problem.

My dog loves it! She’s a husky. I put a cushioned mat in and a blanket for her and she sleeps in it all night.
BettyLouB (verified owner) –
I bought this for my Australian Shepherd to replace one I had for years. It is well built, sturdy and I think will serve my dog very well. Having said that as yet I am unable to get my dog to go in it, not sure if it is because it is made different than his old one or what. Hopefully it will work itself out. I am sure it will be a great one if he does decide to try it out.
LizzyCharley (verified owner) –
Glad I bought this product because I know the dog are safe and dry

I have an igloo that is about 15 years old that is very sturdy and all the clasps are fine. It has been taken apart and cleaned numerous times with no trouble. The vent is the screw up type and works fine. The dogs were not able to chew it up.
81Kataaz (verified owner) –
I work in animal rescue and have seen dogs freeze to death in them. When there is no insulation and heat source in winter, the dog might have some shelter from wind, but none whats whoever from winter temperatures or summer heat. Please do not rely on them for more than they are – a temporary shelter on days with average temperatures.
JohnPC (verified owner) –
My dogs always ask to go outside at night even if it’s cold outside. They go right to the igloo and crawl in and sleep all night. I have three beds in there and they all sleep comfortably. Since it’s plastic there’s no upkeep and easy to wash. Recommended.

My Beagle seems to do OK with the Large Petmate Igloo doghouse that I bought for him in January of this year. However, I don’t believe I would buy another one. The two problems that I have noted are: 1. The vent in the top is poorly designed and provides limited ventilation and will not seal off completely when in the closed position. 2. The tabs that lock the top piece to the bottom are brittle and break off when you try to take the top off. I just took the top off for the second time in 10 months, and broke the remaining 3 tabs off. I had to install some metal clasp to keep the two pieces together.
variousanimalowner (verified owner) –
I bought this for my dog for when he went outside. He didn’t use it. He did, however chew on it, leaving tooth marks.
DukeNDoc (verified owner) –
I just recently bought two of these houses for my two labs. They love them. I opted not to get the optional pads, instead putting their round beds in the houses. During the colder weather, as one of the other reviewers mentioned, they sleep together.
Sweet Pe (verified owner) –
I use this for two feral cats that come in a.m. and p.m. every day. I have a cat heating pad in it. It only goes on when they lay on it and put straw on top of that. They love it and it keeps them warm n cozy all winter. Makes me feel better they’re not out in freezing weather n have a shelter from rain n snow.
azerifan (verified owner) –
I have 1 and both my Labs use it. Its the Large size! My female is 85 lbs and my male 75. They both sleep together in this cause they want to. I do have another dog house that is not this one. They leave that one alone totally to sleep in this for the winter. Course in the summer they would rather sleep on our porch. They havent chewed much at all on it cause it is way too tough for them. One of my labs is a bad chewer, (went thru chain link fence chewing). Overall everything is pleasing with this house. The extra door area is a big time plus!!
TheFishBait (verified owner) –
I like the igloo concept for dog houses. However, the plastic used for this product is very brittle. Check the bottom and you will find broken plastic pieces that seem structural. Needless to say, I returned this doghouse.
cking3177 (verified owner) –
cool in the summer and warm in the winter months – even though the dog is indoors most times, it’s nice to know there is shelter
D royal (verified owner) –
Liked the idea and shape of igloo doghouse; however, the design of the base is wrong and it was extremely difficult to alter the base to fit the top. We finally got it together after cutting some of the plastic and bolting with screws.
CatsPlus2 (verified owner) –
We actually bought this for our cats. They are inside/outside cats. Temps have been below zero several days and nights. We wanted to provide a safe and warm place for them. They use it along with some of their friends who are strays that we feed. We are very happy with the igloo.
Bertha (verified owner) –
I recently bought this dog house for my mini labrador since she outgrew her former house. She LOVES her IGLOO. She sleeps in it all the time and loves to take some of her toys in there. I bought a pad but because she is still a puppy, she started chewing on it. Now I use 3 large soft bath towels which I put in the igloo and she loves it! Great dog house!
JamesLT (verified owner) –
Just a warning about the sizes. The size L (mid size) for 50-90 lb dog is more like up to 50lbs. My 80 lb Golden/Lab Retriever couldn’t fit through the opening. I exchanged it for the largest size and it was perfect.
GreatDanes4Dobies (verified owner) –
I use the x-large for my male great dane who lives on in a tie-out as a guard dog in my front yard. This keeps him cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cool and windy. He also uses this for shelter in the rain, and he almost always sleeps in it at night. One thing’s for sure, Gator loves his igloo! It is very durable, even when he chews on it!
Danche925 (verified owner) –
We got this dog house about 4 years ago and it’s been great. It has survived a Saint Benard through 4 years of hot summers and cold winters. I’m buying a second unit because after all the weathering, the plastic does get brittle and the dog has started to chew on the entrance. I think a wooden dog house would have been eaten long ago. So I’m sold…I hope this helps.
Okie Brandon (verified owner) –
I happened to get a free Indigo and needed an extra dog house at the time. My dogs loved it so much that I bought another so that they didn’t fight over it. I fill it was cedar shavings and this is where they go when it gets cold. I definitely recommend this house over a traditional wooden dog house that succumbs to the weather over time. The Indigo is a champ.

I bought the small one for my dog and she was interested but didn’t want to go in, I went online and saw they had the second biggest one for dogs 50-90 lbs, I immediately ordered it. I get it home put a blanket in it and my dog went right in and laid down, she is a husky and always finds anything den like to use. Hopefully she will continue to use it freely, and then eventually I’ll move it outside once I know she loves it.
chrisstian (verified owner) –
I purchased this for outside cats even though it is labeled a Dog house. It is insulated and not just one layer of plastic. It is insulated on the bottom too so you can put it on the ground without raising it with bricks or wood. I placed blankets inside. It has a vent on the top which is good to keep it from getting hot inside. A lot better quality that other houses I looked at.
Albert Bair (verified owner) –
It’s too small for the size u all say I thought if it came from the USA it would be big enough for a extra large dog like a mastiff or a saint Bernard and then I found out it comes from Texas well u all now the saying
CatLoverNJ (verified owner) –
We have been using these for years for our feral cats. It gives them a place to hide from the rain (we use the medium-size house). In the winter, I put blankets, a self-warming bed, and I also put a warmed-up Snuggle Safe Disk each night. The cats sleep in there either by themselves or with other cats, depending on who they get along with. I like the longer entry way that keeps the rain out unless the wind is blowing hard.

Nice dog house for my bully. Very big for him, but the snap on one side wouldn’t snap because someone put strap on it holding my paperwork, so it wont fully connect on one lock, but its good
mickymees (verified owner) –
I purchased this for an outdoor cat that loves it. I put a heating pad inside and he sleeps on it every night. This is the third house I bought, most designed cat houses have small entry ways and he will not go in it. I think he feels less trapped. This is the large size and it is perfect for a larger cat.
