I admit that I was skeptical about this product, but the weather started getting very cold and I was freezing when taking my puppy outside numerous times a day. I purchased the Stay and Play and set the parameters where I wanted them. My 8 month old goldendoodle quickly learned his boundaries. He is now 70 pounds at one year old and the unit has worked perfectly. He is challenged with birds and squirrels and sometimes other dogs and will not attempt to escape his boundaries. He stays in even without his collar on. My only regret is that I didn’t purchase this unit much sooner. Would highly recommend.

We recently built a house on 10 acres. The current fence is not sturdy enough to keep our Lab contained. It was going to be very expensive to replace the whole fence, and I wasn’t interested in using an electric wire along the entire thing. The soil is very rocky, so an underground invisible fence was not ideal either. I decided to try the PetSafe Stay and Play system, and it has been amazing. It took about 3 days of training. I followed the steps, but my dog started understanding after just using the tone mode. I am now able to leave her outside while I go to work. She walks to the boundary and stops, even watching me drive away without trying to follow me. She is safe and I have peace of mind! Also, the battery life of the collar has lasted a long time. I turn it off if she is not wearing it.

Easy to install. Getting shocked 3 times the first day is all it took for my dog to understand her boundries. Now if she see’s the flags she knows not to go there. I have had the fence for several weeks and she’s doing great! I totally recommend this product!

My puppy learned quickly where she is able to roam free. Gives me a sense of security when she is outside by herself as we leave on a very busy road.
My only issue is that recently our cat chewed through the charging cord for the base and im not sure where i can buy a replacement ??
Overall i highly recommended this unit for your pet!!

Had the hardest time opening this box up. After opening up, I figured out why. I believe it was glued shut because the items were used and sold as though they were new. The collar was scratched and items dirty. I returned and bought cheaper somewhere else. I would not recommend through Pet Smart.

We recently rescued a dog from a local shelter. She was great …except for one BIG problem … she was a fence climber. There was no keeping her in. We bought this system and within 1 week had her trained to tone only!

Great idea! Unfortunately the set up did not work for me home. House sits on a curved/slopes street at an angle. The circle (90 ft max) would either extend too far out into the front street or too far into neighbor’s backyard. If I could edit the circle to more of an oval shape, this definitely would’ve work for my home. Absolutely love PetSafe merchandise, but this one was a return for me.

I keep this plugged in by my door when I came in with my niece she dropped her coat on it without thinking it melted her coat and itself if I Didn’t notice it would have started a fire I will post pictures other then this it worked for my dog but I’m very upset I haven’t had it very long and I don’t want to have to buy another one but right now I’m back to tying up my dog I suggest there should be warnings to keep it high up if you had kids

2nd unit in 3 years , sending unit gets hot and fails. each time I purchased lasted 13-15 months. The price tag is high for a unit that fails so soon.

We live on 7 acres. Most of it woods. We have one neighbor that our dog likes to “visit”. Living in the country you want to be able to let your dog run but not get into trouble.

I purchased the Play+Stay unit about 3 years ago and it has worked great at our rocky, wooded hunting cabin. I have an Irish Setter that just LOVES to run for hours, and there was no catching her. She learned quickly on this containment system, and has never violated it. It finally broke down about 2 months ago. Even though it no longer works, if I put the collar on my dog, she assumes she can’t leave that area and doesn’t test it. I’m purchasing a new one for security, as hunting season is almost here and I need to know that she is safely in her zone. I wish the containment area would reach a little further. I wish it was possible to send the unit back for repair, or purchase a refurbished one. All in all, this works great for what I need.

I bought this product about a month ago and it has worked wonders in keeping our puppy in the yard! We have a 7 month old Springer Spaniel who loves to chase birds. Even though we live on a hill and I know there are a few spots where the signal does not reach she has yet to figure that out! After being corrected in another area she recognizes the flags as her boundary and has not attempted to cross them where I know the signal is weak because of the landscape. It is so nice to be able to be out in our yard with her and not worry that she is going to take off. She also now comes back in the house the first time she is called! This product has worked very well for our needs.

We wanted to be able to safely let our pet roam in our yard without worrying about him running off or getting in the road. Set up was much easier than I first feared, though the instructions seem daunting at first it’s truly not bad. Works very well. Our pup is young, strong and stubborn so we started at medium static level. Seems perfect! He’s only been shocked a few times and now he knows when that beep sounds to turn back to the house. It’s been 5 days but he hasn’t tested the bounds since day 1. we didn’t even use the flags, just walked Him around the area.

I’ve had my system for 3-4 yrs it has been so easy when I moved to set it up again. I have English Bulldogs. They will not go outside of the boundary. Highly recommend

I have searched a long time for the right product because I have a small 6 pound Yorkie that I did not want to get hurt from correction and have a big collar item to deal with! The tone feature and low correction level were exactly what we needed. Collar transmitter is light and dog does not mind it. Our yard is a rectangle and had to place the main unit (unit is very quiet and you don’t even know it is there except for small glowing power light) near a rear window to get the proper perimeter distances from the house to allow more distance in the back yard and cut the distance to the road in the front. We set it at about 6.5 to cover area. So you have to tweak it to fit your yard. The first and main task is setting up the proper distance and finding that area so you can mark with the flags. Once that is done, it is a cinch to set up the collar and train the dog. Remember that there is a few feet in that “border area” and if you keep that in mind, you will see that it works perfectly. No batteries to replace. Collar is rechargeable and we have had unit two weeks and still have not needed to recharge.

At first, we were very excited to use this system… we did some training and thought, our escaping issues were over. Our dog leaves… ALL DAY! Then, comes home watching us with her tail between her legs! We have switched the prongs and turned up the wattage. No luck… over $300 down the drain. Should have went with the real deal!
GizmoGal (verified owner) –
At first I had my doubts about a wireless containment system but the set up and use is just as simple as advertised! After charging the collar then showing our dog the parameter in training mode, she quickly learned where her boundaries were.

I bought this for my chocolate lab , we have 5 acres of property and didnt want a fence put up. Instead bought this Petsafe product. It worked like a charm, we had a collar stop charging but called their customer support and they are absolutely fantastic. Send us a new collar free of change.amd they covered shipping etc. I wouldn’t hesitate to but their products. Also recommended to my Dad for.his new puppy, which he’s happy with this product and saves me from helping build his fence … well worth the price

We’ve had this for almost 2 months now. We also bought a second collar since we have a Boston Terrier (4) and Mini Bulldog (1). The set up is quick and training was fairly quick with both of our pups. We kept the flags up for 3 weeks but they learned their boundaries before the first 2 weeks were up. I’ve only charged their collars twice so far which is nice. I just noticed that I let my dog out all day today and she didn’t even have the collar on and she stayed in her boundaries. I won’t keep chancing it but it’s certainly a piece of mind! So far so good. Hoping I will be just as happy a year from now! Only thing I dislike is the little blue light on the transmitter is suuuper bright. Nothing worth complaining about really though.
ChrisHawkeye (verified owner) –
I have a coon hound and a Siberian Huskey. When I got the product I was warned that it might not work with the Huskey because her hair was long. It has been perfect though. The training makes it sound like it takes forever but I’ve been able to train both dogs in less then a day each. They are both fast and capable of bolting but they don’t even think about it now.
proudowner1 (verified owner) –
It’s very unfortunate, this has been a great product. However the warranty is only one year, the product does not last much more than a year. The company will not repair or sell refurbished. So for $300 / year it’s very expensive.
The upside is that it kept my Aussie,Lab home and he is a very friendly 85 lb dog. He has colors like a deer and I have to keep him home during hunting season.
So disappointed!

Bought this for our new Pup. We live on a lot of acreage in a rural area, and want her to be able to explore and enjoy the outdoors while keeping her safe and close. The invisible fence is wonderful in allowing her freedom to romp.

I bought this product a week ago. I live in a barndomineum and I guess the metal is keeping it from working properly. We worked for several hours and had no luck. I will be returning it to the store .

Had it for just under a year and our dog just loves going out and running around without the lead. Our 7 year 65 lb dog learned fast where the boundary was (using instructions included for training & setup) also setup was quick and easy!

This is the COOLEST system EVER! We have a foxhound that loved to wander, and since buying this, we can take her camping, to our cabin, ANYwhere with NO problems. We have had this system for a little over a year, and it has made our dog’s life SO much better, we can let her wander the yard front AND back with no worries. Has discouraged her even when cats and squirrels try to tempt her out of her perimeter. Even without the collar she stays in now. GREAT product!
Dogliver (verified owner) –
We just bought our second unit. The first lasted over 11 years. We did have to replace a couple of receivers but our dog wears his collar everyday. Once he learned the limits and the beeps it has been effective.
Jess1234 (verified owner) –
We purchased this system when our basset hound was about 4 months old. We’ve had it for about 1.5 years now and have nothing bad to say about it. Our dog quickly learned his perimeter (we followed the training protocol pretty close). What is amazing about this system is that you don’t have to dig the lines in, you simply plug the “hub” in and you are ready to go. It is perfect for our yard (about 1 acre) and we have adjusted it so it starts to beep by the ditch. We have taken it with to my parents house and to the cabin and he quickly learned his perimeters there too. All it took was a few times of hearing the beep and he knew that he needed to stay close to the house or people. I can not say enough good things about this system. Also, about 6 months in to our use, we did have a malfunction with the ‘hub’ (thing that plugs into the outlet). It was not working. Since we had our receipt, the company stood behind their warranty and replaced it. Since they stood behind their product and we haven’t had any issues since, it would not deter me from re-purchasing this product or recommending it to someone. The battery on the collar also lasts a long time between charging it.
Kylie123456 (verified owner) –
We purchased this 7 months ago, and initially it worked well. The dog stayed by our house, and learned his boundaries. The collar has now stopped shocking. It still beeps, but the dog has learned he can keep going and nothing happens. A friend purchased one for their dog on our recommendation and theirs has done the same thing. It was a waste of money for both of us.

So simple to set up! Read the instruction manual, plug it in & set out your flags. Worked like a charm from day 1 with my puppy on a 1 acre lot. Highly recommend!
RachelAa (verified owner) –
We bought this system about a year ago and we’ve had issues the entire time. We can’t let our dog wear the collar at all times, we literally have to put it on him every time he goes outside. If we leave the collar on him, it gives him 3rd degree neck burns and results in us going to the vet for emergency treatment. We learned our lesson after our service dog got a 3rd degree burn from the collar. They should atleast tell people NOT to leave the collar on for long periods of time. I have no idea how someone with an outside dog could use this system.
ProtectiveFurMommy (verified owner) –
We’ve been using this system for almost 3 months and we love it! We have two dogs with two very different personalities but they have both taken to it quite well. We followed the included training program closely. We went through the entire 2 week program but our dogs caught on so fast we were tempted to let them off leash within a few days. We decided it was best to follow the instructions, but they really got the concept by day 2. Each dog only got the static correction once or twice and has never ventured outside the barrier since.

We bought this to keep our German Shepard at home without building a fence (we live in the country.) this has no inpact on him. He will just hesitate and run right through the parameter set. This is a trained service dog we like to let out and run when we are at home but would like to keep away from livestock. Would not recommend for any type of dog.

I had and underground unit that everytime i turned around the wire was getting cut or broken from people planting trees and things so i decided to try this cause my next door neihbor had one for two dogs and it worked well for him and this is the best thing i have bought in a long time. It keeps my dog in the barrier i set and has had no problems. i would recomend this to anyone who don’t want to be bothered with digging and underground wire to install, it works much easyer and is also portable so i can take it to work and set my dogs bounderies also ,great product.

This product has actually worked well for me, I have property with a lot of rock so digging an unground fence was going to be a challenge. It didn’t take long at all to train my dog on it. I do feel like its a little overpriced but it did however save me a lot of time and energy. Nice product overall.

We have a German Shepherd pup who absolutely refused to stay in the fence. She would climb it and go under it. So we decided to buy the Stay + Play fence. While she is still getting out of the fence she is not leaving our yard. I had her collar off one day and was walking in the yard and she would not go anywhere near the boundary even with her collar off!!!

I don’t care what pet safe say’s or anyone. If you’ve had this more than a year. THEN share your comments. This was a life saver to me too, until it didn’t work and my dog left! $340 is a lot to pay for a product that lasted a year and losing a dog isn’t it? And NO NO NO it wasn’t in cold or hot weather or area. Whatsoever. It sits in the middle of the house as recommended. I don’t know how pet safe or anyone would make excuses up for why their product isn’t lasting. Their are many reviews on here with the same problem. Common sense tells me Pet safe that there are issues.

we were at the end of our rope with our 8 year old yellow lab who would push the kids out of the way and bolt to the nearby beach. As a last resort I purchased the petsafe wireless fence system. We are 5 days in and he is happy to stay in the yard.It did not take long for him to figure it all out and now he can roam around our yard with the whole family.I am caustiously optimistic but so far it seems that this is the answer to our problems.
He has only ventured out of the boundary area once and he tucked his tail between his legs and came right back in.It is really amazing. My fingers are crossed that it will only get better but I am really happy with the results so far.

Our dog learned in 1 day better a static shock than being hit by a car
RBinVA (verified owner) –
I bought this on a Saturday. I worked with my 8 month old Border Collie, who had been jumping our 4’ fence, that afternoon and Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon he would not go close to the boundary flags. He would stay in a down position until I called him. He now doesn’t even need his collar.
freyka (verified owner) –
I found the same problems as others have mentioned; it’s hard to set a boundary that doesn’t go to your neighbor’s yard without having enough room for your puppy to play. In addition, it’s very expensive. This proves that you don’t get something better just because you pay more. We have a German Short Haired Pointer and she is very fast. We have tried training over and over again, but when she gets out, she is so fast that the shock nor the beeping phase her one bit. She’s been out and runs for hours before we can catch her. The bad thing about this also is the collar itself can’t be controlled to give her a light shock by a remote control, which I believe would be very helpful to have a 2 in 1 use for this collar. So now I have a $400 product sitting in my house that doesn’t work and I can’t return it because I was delayed with personal items in my life to get it set up within the guarantee window. I think for very small dogs this might be useful, but not for a dog with any kind of speed.

I am writing this review after having purchased three PetSafe containment systems. The first one was over a decade ago and after we finally got it set up with help from an online representative, it worked well for years. However, I had to purchase a new one a couple of weeks before I left for vacation this summer. I thought I would save myself some money and bought it through Facebook marketplace. The woman assured me that it worked when she had put it away a couple of years ago. I came home to find out that it wouldn’t stop screaming. I had no warranty and knew that I was going to be at the money. It was also two days before I was supposed to leave for my trip so I drove an hour to the closest pet store that had one, and spent $450 on a brand new unit. This unit worked perfectly for the two weeks that I was away. I relocated it to my house and it just started screaming at me. I took it back to the old location and it’s still just screamed. I called the customer service help desk and they were great. Customer service was a five star but the product is a one-star. I paid twice as much money for these units as you can for a knockoff. It makes me sick to think of them going straight to the landfill site.

I got this for my Catahoula who LOVES being off his leash but since we have lots of dogs and other distractions near our house and a bit of traffic on our street he needed to be on a leash whenever we took him out. Due to the fact that we are renting our house this seemed like the best option to give him some freedom (and me some peace of mind) without needing to install a fence or dig up the yard to lay the wired kind of invisible fence. What a GREAT product! My dog picked it up very quickly; within a day he had the general idea and within 2-3 days he knew exactly what to do, hear the beep, turn around! I was concerned he would learn to be afraid of the collar (or yard like some people said) but he loves it and gets all excited when we put the collar on him because he knows he is going to get to go out and run around without a leash! Highly recommend!!!
BlackLabPuppy (verified owner) –
After reading numerous reviews we felt confident this fence would allow our 6-month old lab to have freedom in the yard. We purchased the product at our local pet smart and having 60 days to return the product if it didn’t work gave us ease of mind. We are thrilled with the wireless fence and after 3 weeks our lab no longer roams over to the neighbors house. Installing a fence would have been too costly and the idea of our dog using a tie-out or dog-run just didn’t seem fair to him. The 3/4 acre unit gives him plenty of space to explore the woods. We have peace of mind he will no longer be a disruption to our neighbors who have 3 dogs and one of them is quite aggressive, too. We couldn’t be happier with this product.
Pezzy (verified owner) –
I have a 4 month old Doberman puppy. We live in the country and he loves being outside. We’ve had the fence less than a week and already he seems to understand his boundaries perfectly. I’ve even left him outside by himself for 5 to 10 minutes, although I am still watching him from the house to make sure he really does understand his boundaries. Having a rechargeable battery is very useful as well. I would recommend this product to a friend.
Macim (verified owner) –
I bought this almost a year ago and loved it at first then the batteries started to die quickly and the collars decided when and where they wanted to work. So therefore my dog tests the limits to see when the collars are working and when they aren’t he makes a run for it under the fence. I live next to a busy road where cars fly by and it’s only a matter of time before he gets hit. And the collars do not stay tight enough. The dogs can only feel the shock when the collars are tight and yes I bumped up the power of shock. Very disappointed with this very expensive purchase considering I have two dogs and had to buy an extra collar.
Keogh953 (verified owner) –
The other one we’ve had going on ten years and other than some cosmetic damage to the casing where somebody dropped it it’s still great
The collars no longer make the beeping like they should so they were just replaced with the new one- to extend the range
Only thing I wish they’d do is make an extender that doesn’t require a new transmitter
Remember to charge the collars like once a week- more for smarter dogs- ours isn’t really needs like a week to figure out he isn’t even wearing a fence collar
Mindyspack (verified owner) –
We bought this fence (the more expensive one) because we thought it would work really well. The design is a circle. Not good for most properties. Most property lines are in a shape of a Rectangle.
We have tried several times (an understatement) and the boundary goes into both neighbors on each side.(quite a bit and we have over half an acre of land) When we shorten the boundary lines our dog has Very Little front or back yard! Not exactly what we wanted especially for $400. They need to make this an oval shape boundary!!!
That being said, if you are in the country or have a square shape property, this might work for you.
Don’t waste your time with this if you live in an average neighbor hood!!!
Baxtertheblackbisard (verified owner) –
It is wonderful when it is so cold outside to just open the door and let the dog out! I know he is safe and won’t leave the yard. I was standing outside with him and if I looked away he was gone. Not anymore!!
allison30 (verified owner) –
The fence was either faulty or not compatible with our yard and it shocked our dog within the boundaries. When i called to try and return the product, I was told I am unable to due to covid19 restraints and would have to wait till stores re-opended. However, I have a $320 charge on my card and was offered nothing in return.

I like the fact that it has a LCD screen, you can adjust the boundary by the foot if desired . Very well made , works great – impressed !

Used this for a few years now the only reason for 2 stars is both my collars , they work sometimes and not all the time , dogs will run through and take the hit and dissappear for a night or day .

This is a great product, with a very reasonable price. We wanted our Pitbull to have both his freedom and safety from roaming the neighborhood. We didn’t even need the boundary flags; dogs use scent more than vision. After the first time of being shocked, he realized what happens after the tone and started exploring his boundary area. He knows what happens after the tone and would stop dead in his tracks when he heard it, after just a few days. In just about a week, we were able to open up his dog door so he could come and go as he pleased. After about 6 or 8 weeks, unfortunately he got the collar hooked on something and lost it. (The company gave us a discount on a replacement unit.) The replacement has not yet arrived, but it’s been several weeks now and he still doesn’t leave his area. He knows exactly where his boundary is, and does not leave it.
I HIGHLY recommend this product!
