I saw that the first ingredient was fish and had 30% protein and figured why not give it a try. It was reasonably priced and the amount to feed per day was unbelievably low. I compared the price point to another brand I was feeding my dogs and the savings blew me away. We’ve had no upset stomachs and no issues with their stools. IT is the best type of dog food for shepherds . I notice even switching to beef and salmon is not as great for them. Salmon and Tuna is amazing they have good bowel movements,, no allergic responses. Shepherds can be prone to poultry allergies.

BUT in fact I had the chance recently purchase this Purina One brand the one I chose for my baby was the Salmon and Tuna. I bought a big bag for my two dogs since they usually love and thrive off of Purina One dog food, but this one made both of my dogs to have diarrhea and vomit, the diarrhea was liquid and orange; it went on for a week after taking them off it half way through. One of my dogs were extremely lethargic, and began limping, and they both didn’t want to eat the food. When I hydrated it, weird green foam appeared on the rims of the bowls. Gave then a bland diet and they are back to normal.

Thick healthy coast and the shine on them i incredible. I’ve noticed a SIGNIFICANT decline int he quanitity of poop I’m having to pick up, AND the poops are all very well formed. Their gas is almost gone too! Very pleased with this formula, even the caloric content is proving great as both dogs are on smaller portions than their previous food.

I started our dog on this food specifically because the package was clearly labeled “salmon is the first ingredient”. I instantly compared the nutritional info to our present (all natural, Canadian made) dog food and they were comparable. I thought well, let’s give it a try. We haven’t stopped using it! The Real Salmon & Tuna had a less strong odour to it than I was expecting, which is great since it can be a major turn off. Just after a couple of days I began to notice a change in her teeth – less tartar on her canines. After a week, her coat was shinier and softer. She truely loves the flavour, texture and smell of this dry dog food. Roxy has always been very selective in her food choices, thereby making my life difficult. But do dogs know what is good for them? After reviewing the list of ingredients, I have a few concerns: the second and third highest ingredients are plant-based products used to boost the total protein content (corn gluten meal and soy flour) and not from fish. Tuna, which is mentioned on the bag, and you would think it to be second or third ingredient, is actually the tenth ingredient. In between the first and tenth ingredient there are some cereal grains of little nutritional value. There are also ingredients which are of questioning value, known for their toxicity: caramel coloring and menadione (vitamin K). It would be great if dog food makers added probiotics, friendly bacteria added to the surface of the dry food to aid with digestion. Therefore even though Roxy loves this food, she does not always know what is best. It is a plant-based dry dog food, using a modest amount of named fish. So if you think you are feeding your dog high amounts of Salmon and Tuna, think again. This is an average formulation dog food, which is fine for your dog. And since Roxy loves it, I will be feeding her this dog food along with dietary supplements.

We decided to try the Purina One with Real Salmon and tuna and to our amazement his skin cleared within 1 week. We have tried other foods however none of them cleared him up like this food did. We have tried several different kinds of high-end dog foods but it wasn’t until we tried the Purina One Smartblend Salmon and Tuna that he really perked up. We used this while we were away on vacation and when we returned mixed it half and half with an existing lamb and rice food we already had. He ate it for about two days then was back to his finicky ways. When I eliminated the lamb and rice he once again is jumping off the bed in the morning looking for his breakfast. Wish I could find it in more stores in larger sizes.

Love the fact that this dog food has more potein in it for growing dogs but is also great for a much older dog as well. As for me, I foubd the texture light to touch and non greasy. The smell did not seem off, or un-natural. At first i gsve it to Lily as treats to smooth the transition from her regular food. After a few days, I mixed it in with her regular food. She seemed to like it. There was no problems with digestion, as well as “doing her business” remained the same. It did not affect it. I am not sure at this time if I will keep her on it or not. I am curious to see if using it more long term, will help make her fur shiney and silky. The ingredients listed seemed to be of good quality. It did not contain the fillers and junk you normally see. Overall I think it was a good experience and in the future I may switch.

My shih tuz mix can’t have chicken as she tear stains, my poodle get ear infections with high corn content and not enough protein, my pit mix gets dry flaky skin when a food doesn’t agree, haven’t figured out what sets that of food in a food, my chi was having ton eat small breed, my Irish setter puppy transitioned on to it from raw(breeder fed raw) with no issues. My oldest German coolie, can eat anything. Before finding the one brand I tried many different foods that would work for one dog but not for all, I can feed this version of Purina one and have no issues. All the dog look healthy, nice coats, no ear infections, no corn chip smell or flakey skin, easy enough to chew even for the tiniest of dog and easy to find at box store but still quality food. As a groomer I recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality food at a budget price.

Dog loved the first bag we got, then when we repurchased, halfway through the next bag we found maggots in the food and the separate food container we got. It is a hassle to have to deal with this kind of insect infestation, and not an experience I expected to have with this product. I am giving it 2 stars because while my dog loves this food, I am not in love with the fact that I bought something that was infested with live bugs.

It was very easy to transition our dog from strictly raw to back to kibble. Neadlessly to say our dog LOVES this food, we were finding with raw that she was never finishing her meals and now with Purina that isn’t an issue. She has also started to lose weight and her coat is still shiny. We will never change her kibble or put her back on the raw. She has tried many other expensive kibbles and sadly they were too hard on her stomach. If you have a picky sensitive dog on your hands choose PURINA. We are not turning back.

Because she has SEVERE food allergies she is feed a mix of homemade food and kibble to make sure she is getting everything she needs. It has been determined with the vet that there is SOMETHING present in all processed dog foods (both kibble & moist) that exasperates her allergies badly. Yet the Purina One Smartblend with Real Salmon & Tuna does not seem to bother her!!!
