This snake bedding is ideal for use with snakes, lizards and small animals to allow them to burrow and nest. It can also be used with birds, lizards, tortoises, turtles, tarantulas and insects.
This Zoo Med Aspen Snake Bedding provides a comfortable, safe home for your pet. The nontoxic, hypoallergenic bedding is odorless and easy to clean to ensure the health and safety of your pet.

- Clean water should be provided at all times. Provide a water dish that allows enough room for your snake to coil up in, taking care to avoid a situation where overflowing occurs when the snake is submerged.
- Zoo Med recommends feeding your snakes and lizards in a separate feeding container. This prevents them from accidentally ingesting the substrate, resulting in impaction and possible death of your animal.
- Check cage daily and remove any stool or other waste detected. If an offensive odor persists, replace all bedding. Zoo Med recommends replacing all Aspen snake bedding every 2 to 3 months or more often if needed. When replacing all bedding, use Zoo Med’s Wipe Out 1® Terrarium Cleaner (not included) to fully disinfect your terrarium and reduce the risk of bacterial infections.

I placed the Aspen substrate in my Ball Python’s hide, and for some reason, on the first day he avoided it. I never sprayed water to control the humidity. He preferred the cold side rather than Aspen substrate even in those cold California weather. Once I changed my tank to exclude the Aspen substrate my boy was active and menourving like everything was good. I would say avoid the Aspen substrate for Ball Python’s.

I bought this aspen bedding to have an aspen section in my corn snake’s enclosure. Having had a hamster in the past and using aspen for him, it was always dusty with a strong wood smell. Therefore, I was hesitant to buy some for my snake- but I was pleasantly surprised! It’s not dusty, has almost no smell, and the pieces are fine and soft for my snake to burrow in.

I use this for baby and adult cornsnakes as well as a ball python. the cornsnakes do really well with this bedding. they have created tunnels within the aspen to hide in and keep warm. it’s great for spot cleaning as the droppings are very visible against the aspen as well as clump up which makes it easily removable. absolutely NO DUST either!

This large bag is often a little cheaper than the chips over in the rodent section. I use this over pine pellets in my guinea pig cage when I will be away for a few days (I normally use fleece). Keeps them away from the pine and is more comfortable.

I buy this brand for my lined house snake, as he likes to bury himself and have underground tunnels. I have tried other brands of aspen shavings for him to try and save money and it has large chips, which are better suited for rodents, in my opinion.

The petstore I bought my ball python used millet seeds as bedding for the BP’s, When I got her home, I noticed one side of her face looked odd, she had 4 seeds stuck in her lip and it caused her lip to bleed a little. I have only been using this Aspen since I first got her last Friday, It DOES have a smell, but it’s a very very nice smell, she’s poo’ed once on the bedding and it was easy to clean out, I just got a spoon and scooped the litter and everything up there, then smoothed it back down, easy as pie. It’s also soft and cushiony. She likes to lie on it at night, looking out, flicking her tongue.

I use this for my California King Snake, and he just loves to burrow in it. When he wants to warm up, he goes in his little home and burrows, and when he wants to cool down, he burrows under his water dish. It’s rough enough to help him shed, but soft enough to be comfortable to him. It’s easy to clean, and there is no smell.

I bought this for my BP. I also have a ferret that I use aspen wood shavings for. I found that their is less aspen in this bag than in the small animals aspen bag. I dont see a difference. You get more for less with the other bedding!! Other than that, its a great bedding!

This our go to brand because it is finely shredded. I see comments where people are using this for boas and ball pythons. DO NOT USE ASPEN FOR BOAS OR PYTHONS!!! ASPEN is ONLY safe to use for colubrid snake species ex. Corns, kings, rats, king rats, Mexican black kings Chinese rats ext. These snakes burrow.

I had found and rescued a snake that had seemed to be hit in the back of the head with a shovel, so i took her in, and i filled the bottom the the terrarium with this stuff. It is soft, and seems comfortable for a half-paralyzed snake (she could move but very slow) its good quality, and i will continue to use this until she recovers 🙂

This bag of aspen is over price. You can get triple the amount of aspen for the same price from a wholesaler. But it is a good bedding.

I heard a lot of mixed reviews about this. Some people don’t like using this for snakes that need humidity. Some highly recommend it and their snakes need humidity. I generally err on the side of caution, but I went ahead and bought this anyways because I’ve been using this brand for a long time with my corn snakes (I recently bought a boa constrictor). I don’t regret getting this bedding at all because it keeps the humidity high all the time.
