I heard from a bunch of people about this brand so I decided to give it a try… big mistake… every time I gave my dog this food, he ended up sick and there was blood mixed with his stools. I have a 5yoa 6lb chihuahua and a 4yoa 12lb schnauzer/dachshund mix. It’s been hard to keep them consistently on the same brand of dog food due to “covid”; I have changed their dog food about 3 times in the last 6 months due to product availability. Well, I did a some research to figure out what would work best and be in stock and found that this BB dog food would be a great choice for them. Now I know why it’s in stock. After two weeks of being on it, the last few days my littlest dog began not eating it (they weren’t crazy about it to begin with, but that’s what they were getting so they forced it down), throwing it up, having loose stool, and then finally today having blood diarrhea. We took him to the vet and immediately when we said “Blue Buffalo”, the vet began shaking his head in disagreement, stating that he has seen many dogs that have been on BB with the same issues. $300+ later, our poor guy got a shot and two pills. I pray he recovers soon and is back to his fun, playful self again soon.

We have been giving our babies this after I read that they needed food without so much grain. I didn’t really notice any stomach upset after the change so that was nice. We have a large almost 55lb rescue, a small 22lb rescue and a 20lb miniature schnauzer. I do cover the food with a little warm water before serving just because they seem to like it better moist rather than dry. I don’t know if they could improve the flavor but maybe could improve the texture by allowing it to be a little more chewy than dry. I realize dogs need the dry food to clean teeth too but I give them treats to do that. I don’t like switching foods so this is the one we will stick with.

Blue Buffalo isn’t bad, I would buy it if I had to over grocery store brands, but honestly I’m a bit disappointed in the quality of the ingredients when compared to the price of the food. This dog food has great ingredients so I purchased for my small 4 pound dog, Lilly. However, she did not eat it, I think the brand makes great food for both cats & dogs (my cat loves their Salmon flavored snacks!) but unfortunately I will not repurchase.
