I’ve tried at least a half dozen different weight management foods and they almost always gave Chance soft stools and he would pooh 3-4X/ day. On the pro plan large breed weight management his stools are well formed(not runny)& 1 Pooh in the morning and 1 Pooh in the evening. His nose is even getting dark again. Many Dogfoods are trying to dupe people who DON'T know how to read labels. When chicken is listed as 'Chicken" or "whole Chicken" … then it still is 70-80% WATER. This means very little meat as first ingredient, compared to a whole bunch of water. Were it to say "chicken meal" as the first ingredient, that would be GREAT, as meal has the water removed. Purina advertises Chicken is first ingredient, but by weight Chicken would actually be far down the list. Folks, LEARN HOW TO READ LABELS, it is not ROCKET SCIENCE.

As most labs, Maxi is food driven, and has put some weight on, our Vet recommended us to watch his Body Condition and recommended to move him to a weight management formula. Brody spent 3 days in pet emergency on IVs in Nov. for enlarged liver and was on antibiotics for 28 days. Had an ultrasound–no cancer. His last 3 liver enzymes were normal! He didn’t like Pro Plan or Hills Science prescription food. I switched to Pro Plan Weight Management and he woofs it down immediately. He never did this before–was a “grazer” all day. He is down to 80 lbs from 89 lbs. I hope he gets down to 75 lbs. Brody is 10 1/2 years old Golden Retriever therapy dog and I hope this food lets him stay with us for many more years.

Decided to give this kibble a try for the half of my pups that both have no chicken sensitivities and were easy keepers. So far they’ve very much enjoyed this food (though I’ve not found something they dislike) and clean their bowls. It’s doing a good job of keeping them feeling fuller, longer, as neither furkid has so much as begged between meals. Also enjoying the larger kibbles for these kiddos (110# and 60#) but definitely may be a con for some. Stools are well-formed, coats are healthy, and combined with regular exercise this feels like an easy choice for my household. 🙂
