DESCRIPTION
Replicate your pet reptile’s natural tropical environment with the help of Thrive Natural Calcium
Sand Soil Mix. This sand and soil hermit crab terrarium substrate bedding is ideal for adult reptiles including Hermit Crabs, Bearded Dragons, Uromastyx, Leopard Geckos, Sand Boas, Greek Tortoises, and Tarantulas. It is perfect for digging and burrowing while being gentle on the skin. Only at PetSmart.
Features:
Includes: Natural Calcium Sand and Soil Mix
Environment: Indoors
Product Weight: 5 lb (2.7 kg)
Directions: Evenly spread 2 inches of sand on the floor of the terrarium. A 2-3-inch depth is recommended for large pets. Use a sand sifter to scoop waste daily. Completely replace the substrate monthly or as needed. If waste material is allowed to collect on the surface, your pet can develop skin and intestinal infections. A clean environment will help you protect the health of your pet.
Care Instructions: Discard waste daily. Completely replace the substrate monthly or as needed.
Caution: Sand substrate is only safe for adult reptiles. Not recommended for juvenile lizards under 6 inches (15 cm) in total length. While natural calcium sand can be ingested, you
should seek immediate veterinary care if your pet consumes large quantities of the substrate or if there is a change in food or water consumption. Excess consumption can cause intestinal impaction, which can be harmful. Observation and proper management will minimize potential problems.
Advice for Use: Refer to a pet-care guide to determine the proper substrate for your pet. Feeding your pet from a plate or bowl within the enclosure will reduce accidental substrate ingestion. Wash your hands after handling a pet or cleaning a habitat.

Bought this for our hermit crab. The bag covered the small aquarium to a depth of about 3″. The crab seems to like the soft sand. However, I probably won’t be buying this again since I can only get one sand change out of a $10 bag.

This sand will kill your hermit crabs. It turns into cement when wet and glues your crabs inside of their shells. Natural play sand only mixed 5:1 with ecoearth is the proper substrate.

I bought this product when it was called: All Living things- sand and soil mix. This product is NOT for use with hermit crabs–this product is indended to be used dry– Hermit crabs need moist sand. Calcium sand clumps up when wet then hardens and can trap your crab in it’s shell. Do not buy this product for crabs. Also, the bag is ridculously small 5 pounds of sand for 8 dollars. Would need multiple bags to fill a tank. Buy repti sand white. You get 10 pounds of sand for 19 dollars- and no danger of it clumping up and hardening–but if you want to be really safe mix with eco earth

I got this mixture after reading numerous pages about it being okay for leopard geckos. Little did I know it isn’t. And that they will sit there and eat sand. In 2 minute my gecko was eating it heavily. I normally get carpet for her but they were out so I thought it’d be okay for a while. NOPE! petsupplycanada needs to be clear on what animals cannot have their products if I would of been a beginner reptile owner I would of lost my gecko from sand. This is the first time I’ve owned a gecko! Next time I’ll make sure to ready pages that aren’t by pet stores. And I’ll look for mor personal websites.

i have read on several different places that calcium sand is bad for the crabs so i don’t know why this product would be specifically marketed for them. i bought it before i knew that but i switched them into a different tank with different substrate anyways.
