The product is perfect as a fence to block my puppy from venturing into areas he’s not allowed in.

I bout this pen for my small yorkipoo. The first time I ever put him in was yesterday mornig. The pen was assembled per manufacturers directions and he managed to wedge himself inbetween the panels. After rushing him to the emergency vet last night because he wasn’t able to move his hind legs, he passed this morning from cadiac arrest due to internal injuries. I do not reccomend this product for small dogs.
Jean6 (verified owner) –
Helps keep puppy corralled when not on leash. Using one outside and one to block off area for pup in our open concept home.
Willie5144 (verified owner) –
We bought this for our three month old Maltipoo. It’s perfect to use for potty training and move it to use as a playpen. Great purchase.
MommaMoody (verified owner) –
I bought this product for my 9 week old puppy to help crate train her and potty train her. She is too smart for this system as she is able to open up the door whenever I close it. I thought this would be a lot more sturdier also and it was no, my puppy is able to move the gate around very easily even while it’s attached to her crate. I had to add an additional clip to the door to keep it closed so that she can’t open it. Either she is a very smart puppy to have figured it out or it just was not built as it should have been.
Ericajoy98 (verified owner) –
The door is a little off, so you have to manually lift the top and bottom of the door to make sure it hooks on every hook. Other than that it’s pretty good. My 70 lb dog has to be on cage rest so this is perfect.
Jojo198507 (verified owner) –
My 8 week old small sized whoodle (the smallest in the litter dad was a miniature poodle) she’s less than 10lbs and she managed to climb over it! She could have seriously hurt herself luckily I was close as she hung over the edge with her neck… also similar experience to other reviews where she can easily move the walls around. I did love the ease of use but this is so not safe. I was shocked!
Trevor T (verified owner) –
The pen has a pinch point where the walls clip together to form the enclosure. My 3 mo old puppy got her paw caught in the pinch point and broke her metacarpal.
Vlqueen (verified owner) –
I bought this to use for evacuation for hurricane Florence. I actually like the lift up door more than my Frisco play pen (pictured right) which has a top and bottom slide lock. While I do prefer the door more on the TP I dislike the locking mechanism. It’s a little annoying.
3 Mutt Mom (verified owner) –
This is easy to take in the car and the size can be adjusted for smaller spaces.
Lfdorries (verified owner) –
Bought it for my 5 month old Yorkie to contain him at night. Went to bed. And the next thing I hear is him knocking on our bedroom door. He climbed right up it. Will be returning it.
JanB (verified owner) –
I bought it for a French bulldog puppy. Has done the job both inside and outside.
Buttons2022 (verified owner) –
I purchased this as a barrier between hard floors and carpet. It works great and allows my dog to have his freedom without worrying about my new carpet.
KittyKath (verified owner) –
The Top Paw Exercise Pen is great for small puppies. My small puppies are able to climb out of the pen, so I had to get a taller pen. Overall, the pen is good for mini puppies.
Shih Tzu mom 2 (verified owner) –
I bought this for my 12 lb Shih Tzu. Went to set it up and there was only 1 anchor in the box – not the 4 that the box said were in it. Where do I get more anchors? Also, there was nothing to join the open sides. How do I join them? No instructions in the box.
Nhmillie (verified owner) –
Bough this as a pen for outside our RV. It’s lightweight and sturdy enough to stand on its own.
Dlg175 (verified owner) –
We have had 2 of these fences before and bought this one to extend the enclosure now that we have 2, not 1, dogs
BaileyBean33 (verified owner) –
We bought it and hooked it up with our dog’s crate to have a play area with it. She loves it!
Fisher2020 (verified owner) –
The product is great, but I bought three of them online from a competitor for the price I paid for one at your store.
Tamarama (verified owner) –
Needed to replace my old one due to rust and this pen is of the thinnest quality of wire bars. Super flimsy allowing your dog to bend and escape. There is “No” Top brace over the door opening and cheaply made clips to hold it together and the folding lock is plastic. Too high of a price for the quality of a pen. Returning it and buying a Midwest brand or one with thicker bars.
Philmills (verified owner) –
Great purchase, does exactly what we wanted it for keeping our pup happy
Shadowtodd (verified owner) –
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I went and got this item a week ago there is only two things I don’t like it’s kind short and the handle opens when your pet plays with the door
Diane (verified owner) –
Bought two and put them together . 9 golden retriever puppies were getting the best of me!
Worked great. Didn’t fall over when they jumped on it. Kept them contained and the poop and pee outside and not in the house. Hurray!
1piper1 (verified owner) –
Best playpen..dog can be outside with us.and be safe. She loves it.
Logie Bear (verified owner) –
It worked for what we need it for right now, would have been nice if it had instructions for those tiny pieces though.
Pugaliciousvirgo (verified owner) –
This is a rock star product, mh puppy rather this play pen than his crate and I do too. So much space so dim to run around!
Human of Fred (verified owner) –
I just got a rescue pup, who was too thin to leave in the fenced-in yard because he could fit through the slats. I bought this hoping to be able to work in the yard while he enjoyed outdoor time. It was very easy to set up. But it was too short for him: He jumped over within a few minutes. Luckily, he didn’t escape the yard. This would be great for much smaller or younger or less energetic pups. It’s too small for mine.
Puppy Jake (verified owner) –
Our Dachshund is able to jump over the pen walls and escape.
Aliciajane (verified owner) –
Bought this play pin for my puppy and the hooks to lock the door on stabbed my dog in the eye and now I have to pay $180 in vet bills.
Foster Fan (verified owner) –
Bought to attach to 36” x-pen, for convenience of reaching over, while caring for litter of ten pups. Easy to fold sides, to access areas for spot cleaning. Split doors handy for stepping in and out, while keeping pups in. Caution if pups are athletic. One 6+ Week-er (lab/coonhound mix) easily climbed the 24”, so needed to add temporary cardboard extension :>). Used indoors, on top of plastic tarp which covered oil cloth tarp
ristakrat (verified owner) –
With nine 3 week old med breed puppies I had to find something in store fast. I assumed the price meant quality. My 3 week old puppies move it all over the place and I have only let their mother in with them once. Just her laying down against one wall almost made the entire pen come with her. The stabilizers were a disappointment. We used heavy boxes to keep this pen from roaming our house or falling down and we don’t let the mother in anymore.
I am hopeful of it’s performance outside where the ground anchors can be used. Until then I’m looking for a replacement indoors. It is easy to clean and basically comes assembled which is great in a pinch, but I’m looking for a plan B right now.
JTDube79 (verified owner) –
My 3 month old puppy learned to climb and jump out of this pen within 2 weeks. I won’t be able to use it moving forward.
Area 00676 (verified owner) –
I bought it two weeks ago and it’s been a great decision for my dog.
Cookie (verified owner) –
Pen slides quite a bit on tile flooring. Something to consider before buying
Suzy123 (verified owner) –
It comes it a box so you can’t see the wire, not as good of quality as my other. The panels don’t come separate like other brands, incase you want just 6 panels.
Bunny Bon Mom (verified owner) –
We purchased this pen for our dwarf bunny to live inside of our living room and it’s been great!!! It’s the perfect height for our bunny and is nice and sturdy for the bunny! I don’t know if I’d use it indoors for a puppy, but it would definitely work outside where you can anchor it to the ground.
Rosiegirl2024 (verified owner) –
Purchased for outdoor potty training. Has worked well so far.
Ravensword2001 (verified owner) –
I actually bought 2 sets of the play kennel. I have two dogs, both are small but 1 was not big enough for the dogs to play in. The 2 were great and kept the dogs around the campsite, without having to keep them on a lead.
alexdmac (verified owner) –
There is no way my horse is comfortable in this cage. even tryiung to put him in it he kicked a giant hole in the side of and almost got his head stuck in it.
Oliver55 (verified owner) –
I bought this a week ago and am taking it back to the store.
Jane6838 (verified owner) –
Only problem is with the door being nigh on impossible open. I noticed another comment on the same problem and do hope Pets Mart pay attention to comments on their products.
EloiseII (verified owner) –
I have 3 of these because they are lightweight, versatile & very affordable. I like that they can be set up as an enclosure or to block access across a large room.
Doghouse12 (verified owner) –
My golden retriever puppy has a lot of space to play
supercooper (verified owner) –
We bought this for our French Bulldog puppy and he loves it. It works really well. We have it set up in the living room right in the middle of the action. We also bought a crate and attached it to the pen ( it tells you how in the manual). He has plenty of room for a bed, litter box, food, water, toys, etc… We got the taller 36″ model and are glad we did because Cooper is a jumper! I would recommend this to any new puppy mom or dad.
Dukesfam (verified owner) –
Bought for our puppy and works great when he needs crated.
Tracey E (verified owner) –
I bought this at the recommendation of my dog trainer and I am so glad that I did. My other pets instantly relaxed when the puppy had boundaries, and it allowed me to get som things done without concern that the puppy was getting into something he shouldn’t. The pen is easy to set up, adjustable to different shapes and sizes and easy to transfer to another room. This should be essential equipment with a new puppy!
Disney friends (verified owner) –
I was hoping it would be helpful with the puppies we purchased but, it’s very fragile and not sturdy.
Milo10 (verified owner) –
I bought this and unfortunately the walls are movable. My puppy was pulling the walls back and forth. Definitely, a safety hazard.
Chuckindy (verified owner) –
I needed a way to stop my dog from leaving our deck and this worked perfectly. I can spread it out wide enough to cover the opening, and then easily fold it back against the wall when it is not needed. It is also low enough for me to step over without having to unlock the gate each time. the gate is a little cumbersome to unlatch.
rosahhh (verified owner) –
I just bought this yesterday at Pet Supply. First of all, there were no instructions at all, not even a one page sheet of paper (maybe someone had returned it?) not that you need to know much, but the gate is very confusing to open. It is sturdy enough for my Chihuahuas (one is 5 lbs, the other 7 lbs) but I can’t imagine putting a larger dog in it. Mostly they just sleep in it and they seem to like it a lot. I like that there is no bottom bc I might use it outside to put them in it when I am doing yard work or reading. Since they are so small, the space seems huge.
WillPR (verified owner) –
I bought this about a month ago…I should have gotten it sooner. It is a big relief for my pet, my family and I.
Bunny Mami (verified owner) –
We were looking for a quick and easy to install “fence” so we can move our bunnies to the basement during hot summer days. We are very happy with this purchase, its super easy and quick to build up, flexible
but stable on the ground. We actually bought 2 of
them so our bunnies have lots of room to move
around. Its high enough to keep them inside and the
spacing is tight enough as well.
J7971 (verified owner) –
The door release got turned over somehow and didn’t work very well after that.
Wencdy8 (verified owner) –
Top-Paw is a tremendous product, built well for long lasting use, easy to put together and take down and very sturdy.
Kiapups (verified owner) –
I bought this product for a litter of 9 large breed puppies that my dog had. I needed something with high walls because they figured out how to jump out of the little pen I made with dorm room shelves. Worked out beautifully. The stabilizers are useless though. They fall off very easily. Love the fact that it attaches to a crate. Haven’t tried to do that yet.
Ksand10 (verified owner) –
This helps us keep our new puppy right where we want her whether we are inside or outside. It is easy to set up or break down. I love that it is portable which will help when going to the beach or visiting family.
Amyy12345 (verified owner) –
I bought this because my puppy was in a similar one at the fosters home. He is doing great in it and it helps with separating him from the other dogs when needed
Neto711 (verified owner) –
I bought this a week ago and it’s good and works perfect for our new puppy.
Anonymous (verified owner) –
This changed everything. We have a 3 year old lab and just got a new puppy. Their size difference meant we needed to keep them apart. We bought two so that we could all still be together as a family. Easy to assemble. Better than expected
Jasperfamily (verified owner) –
So happy with this purchase. It is so easy to set up and take down. We can move it on the deck, in the house or even take it travelling with us and sent up at camp to keep the puppy contained and in a safe space.
Krysddd (verified owner) –
I have a 10 week old Havanese. We have a sturdier pen at home, bought this one for when we are at the trailer. Puppy got a claw caught in one of the connector pieces and it was hard to get it back out. The connectors also have raw edges. Really not safe for pups.
Puppy Mom313 (verified owner) –
We were looking for some help keeping our puppy in one location in our yard and this was a great solution. It’s easy to set up and move around when needed and still gives him some ‘freedom’ in the yard.
Janetyb (verified owner) –
Love this. I have 2, 9 pound puppies and this is perfect for them. I love that it is portable and lightweight for me to carry. It holds both of my puppies with room for them to play. Can configure to most any shapes. Highly recommend this product.
Maddie and cookie 4 ever (verified owner) –
I bought this pen for my dog, and at first I thought it was going great. But then It was sliding on the tile flooring I have. So that’s why I rated it the way I did because it was good but I did not like the way it was sliding. Because it wasn’t safe for my dog or me because when she put her paws on the pen it slid and she would fall
Meandmypuppy24 (verified owner) –
I bought this for my labradoodle. She hates being in the backyard but loves her crate. Unfortunately, I can’t crate her for the 8 hours I’m at work. We set this exercise pen in the living room and it’s perfect! She has her toys, snacks and water and she’s set for the day.
Finnandcoco (verified owner) –
this pen went up easily enough. the door sticks and is difficult to open and close securely, though. overall the quality seems good except for the door operation. unfortunately, it’s not as big as I thought it would be for my 2 puppies.
Noneofyourbusiness (verified owner) –
My pup is 8 weeks old and is a medium breed and this pen is WAY too flimsy for her. Disappointed and going to return it. Don’t waste your money.
Lexie200 (verified owner) –
I have a rabbit named Marley she loves this doggy play pen. She cannot jump over it and can’t move it. She loves doing binkies at night and durning the day
ForemanTamalito (verified owner) –
We bought this for the puppy we adopted. The pen is perfect for him while we’re at work. It’s adjustable to fit any area without compromising the sq ft. We love that he can have access to his kennel as well. This play pen also seconds as a gate for us when we need to block off the balcony or certain areas of the apartment when needed. Highly recommend!
Marytea (verified owner) –
It is exactly what we needed. It gives her more room to play but keeps her in one spot. This way we always know where she is and that she is safe. The only negative is she has to jump over part of the gate to go in and out. She is so small that at times she does not seem like she wants to do it.
Crich1961 (verified owner) –
I bought this fence for a small chihuahua rescue. The ground is too frozen to put a permanent fence and this worked nicely. I just bought a second one to give her more room to roam.
Xenaphon (verified owner) –
To big i have a yorkie 8 pounds got if for after her spayed app so she would run to walk around to big in the house it moved around all
Erimay (verified owner) –
I have a cocker spaniel, she is 8 months old and she move the Exercise pen all over the living room and my patio….
Waste of money 🙁
KittieKatz (verified owner) –
I have a 5-6 lb rabbit who does not like the confines of a cage, so I bought her this pen. She absolutely loves the space it provides. She’ll run around and play and then flop down in the middle. I keep an old quilt under the pen so that 1) my hardwood floors do not get scratched, and 2) so she doesn’t have to lay on a cold floor. There’s room for her litter box, toys and food. She’s quite a jumper but fortunately she cannot jump over this pen. A must have for our small furry pets!
Sjpw (verified owner) –
Purchased for new puppy and has worked well. Would recommend for small dogs and puppies.
Anonymous (verified owner) –
Brought it last week and it’s the best thing I did.
Dog pen (verified owner) –
This product has become a lifesaver for me. I have struggled with keeping my dogs off the furniture and then pulling the cushions off onto the floor since buying this they stay in it and my couch stays fur free.
kaso (verified owner) –
I got this pen for my doberman puppy and it’s worked wonders!
Glenda J (verified owner) –
I bought this for an 8 week old puppy to allow her freedom while allowing me to cook without worrying about her being under my feet. She’s perfectly happy in there with her toys & bed and can see me. I put it on top of a moving blanket I had on hand to cover my hardwood floor. It’s easy to assemble & to transport to my daughters when she keeps her occasionally.
MaysBuns (verified owner) –
I just bought this for my rabbit who has a litter of 1-month-old babies. The previous pen they were in was getting too small for them, and the babies LOVED the extra space. They immediately started zooming around and binkying like crazy! Unfortunately, it only took them a few seconds to figure out that they could squeeze through the bars! I cut up a cardboard box and tied the cardboard to the bottom of the panels with wire ties, which worked great. My adult bun can’t get through the bars, just the babies, so this would just be of concern to people who have baby rabbits or other small pets like hamsters.
Jonesdlj (verified owner) –
Well constructed. Easy to use gate. Would definitely recommend.
MathTeach (verified owner) –
We bought this product last week for our new goldendoodle (8 weeks old). The quality of the product is poor. The “stabilizers” pop off if the animal jumps up or pushes the pen in any way. Once the stabilizers are gone, the pen loses its configuration and the metal scratches your hard wood floors.
cmdouglas3681 (verified owner) –
Bought this for my six week old puppy to keep him contained. So far so good, working very well.
Senerhu (verified owner) –
We have actually bought 3 pens now Two 36 inch high and one 24 inch high. One partitioned off the area where the Christmas tree is/was, the second separates the office so the puppy can’t chew various wires, and the third is the pen he sleeps in. I think they work great and I believe the quality is good. Tip to those that have climbers. If they learn to climb out, lay a 6 inch wide piece of plywood around the top and wire it to the cage.
DogLovingMan (verified owner) –
I needed something that I could put on the floor next to my bed so my new pup could sleep in the same room with me at night. This fits the bill perfectly. I love the fact that I can simply fold panels over on each other, allowing me to change the size of the playpen at will.
scully121155 (verified owner) –
This item is perfect for my needs as it can be used as a stand alone enclosure or to block an area.
WeLovePuppies (verified owner) –
Bought this for foster puppies till they went to their forever homes. It’s perfect and we love the double doors. Just high enough to keep puppies in and low enough to let momma in and out without a puppy escape.
corgiandmainecoonmom (verified owner) –
I got the 8 panel ex pen and my new corgi pup is happy. The panels are flimsy but I made sure to secure it tightly to my pups crate and added some zip ties to strengthen it tighter (made sure pup wont be able to reach and chew off zip ties) and this did help quite a bit. Also to protect my hardwood floors from scratches and potty accidents I went to lowes and purchased a 6 ft x 9 ft piece of linoleum for $29 to place underneath the pen and crate.
Zonkey (verified owner) –
I bought this two weeks ago for my pup. We use it when she can’t be immediately supervised. It’s a great, secure play area!
GDH2021 (verified owner) –
Durable and nice. My dog loves it!!! Good price for a great item,
Rob12181 (verified owner) –
I will be returning this item. Not worth the money.
Missy (verified owner) –
Our dog just had TPLO surgery, this is a great to allow her to heal.
Ders (verified owner) –
As a containment unit goes this product would work best for small breed dogs. I use it indoors to give my golden retriever puppy more room than a crate during potty training. Setup is super simple as it is pre-assembled and four clips are provided to attach one end to the other or (as I have done) attach to the crate for a little more space. It is heavy enough that he can’t knock it over and only jostles a bit on tile floor (22lbs at the moment, but remember it’s attached to a large crate) and as stated above, the corner braces are useless unless it is in the specific design configuration.
Winnie p (verified owner) –
I bought this to protect my puppy. However, It’s strangled her to death she got her collar caught on it. Yes I know there is a warning label now saying to take Collars off. But honestly who takes it off every time you put them in there? Because just like they have to get used to their play pen they have to get used to their collars. My Winnie p Was only five and a half months old.
chelseakenzo (verified owner) –
Bought it for my puppy, very sturdy and great for training
Angel the wonder dog (verified owner) –
I purchased this fence to stop my little dog from crawling under the railing at my apartment. She is a small dog and can go under the 7 inches and would fall 30 feet where she would probably not live. I feel comfortable that she can no longer subject her little body to a horrible demise
docile (verified owner) –
This is a great sturdy product and I have purchased this product twice.
Cassie2222 (verified owner) –
We have never used a puppy pen for a new puppy before this puppy. We like that we can control the puppy, but she can move around and play, too. We attach the Top Paw crate to the pen. Very deluxe!
Aly2023 (verified owner) –
I bout this 2 weeks ago and it has help so much with my dogs to have play time at the house.
Tiffany72 (verified owner) –
I bought this for a puppy and it is perfect. I especially like the half split door so the bottom keeps him in but the top portion of it makes it easier to get in and out of.
Shania1961 (verified owner) –
We bought this for camping, it will be the perfect size
Judy Jeff (verified owner) –
I bought the first one two months ago, then decided I needed two. First one is a playpen in the family room and the second one I use to block off some of my porch, so my Yorkie can’t escape.
ErinL (verified owner) –
Just bought this two weeks ago it definitely does the job
midwest momma (verified owner) –
One of my two small dogs had surgery and I needed to keep them apart for 3 weeks. I bought this product for that reason. The first night it worked great. The recovering dog was in the pen with “piddle pads” and water and the other dog was with me. Though the dogs became very lonely for one another and I had to let them be together, the pen was a perfect answer and I know I will use it for many other reasons.
Chillzone68 (verified owner) –
I have a 10 week old 1/4 flemish giant standard rex rabbit mix who was living in the lower level of a critter nation double unit for about 5 weeks. I finally upgraded him to this pen with the 30% off associate day yesterday plus it was in clearance for $66.00; i love it! I do not currently have the space to set it up to the full size, so its about 4’x2′ right now. If it was set up to the whole 16 sq ft, he would feel like a king!
Valigirl1351 (verified owner) –
Pen was separated and made into to two gates to block off an area for a new pet. Needed a 36“ high fence to make a custom size containment area for an 11 month old Standard Poodle Pup. This product was perfect! Easy to cut apart with bolt cutters, and secured with metal angle brackets and zip ties. Works great! Only concern is that the gate is a bit difficult to open and close. Overall gauge of the wire is not as thick as I would like, but was a much more cost effective way to go. Four stars due to the thin gauge of the wire.
