Social: Guinea pigs are social animals and thrive when raised in pairs, but only house same-gender pairs together.

Give the guinea pig time to warm up to you. It’s been a week and he’s finally letting me pet him and warming up. He running around and happy. I bought two female Guinea pigs 11/2020. I have had many Guinea pigs in past. These two fought a lot. Turns out the pink eyed one is blind and gets startled by the other. The black eyed one didn’t eat for a couple of days and then wouldn’t come out of cubby. She was on her side having seizures. I could not find a local vet. The one I found for emergency was $250 to walk in door. Wanted to put in IV for $1,000. Plus cost of blood tests. To euthanize was $165! They are considered “exotic pets”. Hay, litter, fresh salad stuff all adds up. Way too expensive for living 3-6 years!

We bought two young Guinea pigs and they were perfect! Upon getting home to Drayton Valley, we noticed one had a lump on his neck. We phone and they told us we could bring him back so we did so the next day. We asked that after his vet check if he was healthy, that we would still like to re-adopt/purchase him. While we were there, we decided to take the third sibling home with us to keep the first one company. The amazing employee checked him for lumps, and he was good so we left. While we were stopped in a parking lot at a store, my spouse held him and ended up finding a lump that was missed. We took him immediately back and unfortunately he had to go to the vet as well. The first one we purchased is still healthy and amazing and we love him so much. We have told the staff that we would like to buy back both of the other siblings if they are sellable after the vet, and the associate we dealt with was so amazing. We will definitely be repeat customers for life.

I made a vet appointment immediately within days it had transferred to his paws. The vet said he had ring worm it is easily treatable but the meds are $70 alone. Apparently this isn’t new that a lot of the pets are sick so be aware before purchasing.

I don’t recommend buying from stores, try the SPCA, but I guess come here if no other option. My first piggy I got in 2019 that was on the SPCA site but located here. I got him when he was 1 and he’s 6 now. He’s had 2 separate companions that have passed and I’ll probably be getting one soon from here since the SPCA doesn’t have any available piggies currently that will fit for him. Got this guinea pig for my daughter and it is awesome for her. She loves being able to hold it as he makes his noises. This is the family’s third guinea pig, and they are great family pets. They do need cleaning of the cage at least every 3-5 days but if you spot clean daily then you would only have to clean every week, to week and a half. Not a big deal,compared to dogs or cats which cost more to feed and house.

I bought a pair of guinea pigs at the petsupplycanada on Macleod at the beginning of March. They were very cute but one guinea pig had a flower shaped right ear. The store clerk said that they came like that. The poor guinea pig looks like the supplier took a pair of scissors and cut a floral shape on its right ear. Both guinea pigs had flaky skin. I initially thought it was just normal skin shedding, and our dry Calgary weather. I did not inspect the guinea pigs in detail until about a week later because they say that new pets need time to adjust to their new environment and that we shouldn’t bother them (handle them). It was only when I was trimming their toenails and long fur that I noticed the dry scaly skin and the other guinea pig had a lot of discharge in its left ear. They are both going to the vet this week but I think petsupplycanada should re-imburse the purchase and/or pay for the vet bill because they did not come in healthy or in top shape. They have that 14 day policy which is strange because that’s about the same amount of time that it takes new pets to adjust to their new environment and then training them after so that they are not afraid of being handled.

We got these adorable little characters last September from our local petsupplycanada in Glenmont, NY. Peppa (teddy) and Zoe (gray agouti) have been very happy and healthy. We have expanded our piggy family since then (the 3 additions were rescues/private adoptions), and their cage. I’ve heard a lot of complaints online about different pet stores not properly identifying their genders, or selling sick piggies. All the piggies I’ve seen in any petsupplycanada I’ve been in have looked very healthy. If you’re going to buy from a Pet store, I recommend petsupplycanada. 🙂

Since I got it when I was young I didn’t understand them and they had to live in small cages their whole life. Also at first I had a single one, and they need a friend…which also isn’t on the care sheet. Although their not as bad as other pet stores, as in the location I got it from not the whole brand. They also rarely got sick. One of my guinea pigs, Oreo got sick once but otherwise they were healthy. My only two concerns are the misinformation on their care and the anxiety issues that Lulu had. Again I’m talking about my location each petsupplycanada is different.

Got this guinea pig for my daughter and it is awesome for her. She loves being able to hold it as he makes his noises. This is the family’s third guinea pig, and they are great family pets. They do need cleaning of the cage at least every 3-5 days but if you spot clean daily then you would only have to clean every week, to week and a half. Not a big deal,compared to dogs or cats which cost more to feed and house.

I bought a pair of guinea pigs at the petsupplycanada on Macleod at the beginning of March. They were very cute but one guinea pig had a flower shaped right ear. The store clerk said that they came like that. The poor guinea pig looks like the supplier took a pair of scissors and cut a floral shape on its right ear. Both guinea pigs had flaky skin. I initially thought it was just normal skin shedding, and our dry Calgary weather. I did not inspect the guinea pigs in detail until about a week later because they say that new pets need time to adjust to their new environment and that we shouldn’t bother them (handle them). It was only when I was trimming their toenails and long fur that I noticed the dry scaly skin and the other guinea pig had a lot of discharge in its left ear. They are both going to the vet this week but I think petsupplycanada should re-imburse the purchase and/or pay for the vet bill because they did not come in healthy or in top shape. They have that 14 day policy which is strange because that’s about the same amount of time that it takes new pets to adjust to their new environment and then training them after so that they are not afraid of being handled.

We bought two young Guinea pigs and they were perfect! Upon getting home to Drayton Valley, we noticed one had a lump on his neck. We phone and they told us we could bring him back so we did so the next day. We asked that after his vet check if he was healthy, that we would still like to re-adopt/purchase him. While we were there, we decided to take the third sibling home with us to keep the first one company. The amazing employee checked him for lumps, and he was good so we left. While we were stopped in a parking lot at a store, my spouse held him and ended up finding a lump that was missed. We took him immediately back and unfortunately he had to go to the vet as well. The first one we purchased is still healthy and amazing and we love him so much. We have told the staff that we would like to buy back both of the other siblings if they are sellable after the vet, and the associate we dealt with was so amazing. We will definitely be repeat customers for life.

Within 5 to 7 days after I got we realized a skin issue. Went back to the store and I was told that it has a ringworm. Something that is highly contagious to people. I got worried about my kids.
I will have to deep clean everything and loose the bedding I have on the cage.
The animal was left on the store for a vet visit but I haven’t received any document from leaving it there and no date to hear back from the vet or about the treatment.
The kids are missing the pet and wondering when it is coming back home!

I made a vet appointment immediately within days it had transferred to his paws. The vet said he had ring worm it is easily treatable but the meds are $70 alone. Apparently this isn’t new that a lot of the pets are sick so be aware before purchasing.

He was quiet and shy like they are but then my baby got sick with a respiratory infection, when I got him I figured he was just shy and quiet but he quickly he did become more playful with our other Guinea pig but about two days after him being comfortable he soon became sick. He wasn’t eating, using the bathroom, he wasn’t breathing right and he lost a lot of weight! I do not blame the store nor myself as I believe he was well taken care of, just a bad situation, I did return him as he we believe he may have needed medical attention soon and with it being a Sunday there were no vets open. I just really wish if he were to get better I could repurchase him 🙁

We got these adorable little characters last September from our local petsupplycanada in Glenmont, NY. Peppa (teddy) and Zoe (gray agouti) have been very happy and healthy. We have expanded our piggy family since then (the 3 additions were rescues/private adoptions), and their cage. I’ve heard a lot of complaints online about different pet stores not properly identifying their genders, or selling sick piggies. All the piggies I’ve seen in any petsupplycanada I’ve been in have looked very healthy. If you’re going to buy from a Pet store, I recommend petsupplycanada. 🙂

I bought guinea pigs from here a very long time ago. One of them, Lulu, had bad anxiety from the start, likely because of where pet store animals come from. The care sheet has misinformation on it. Since I got it when I was young I didn’t understand them and they had to live in small cages their whole life. Also at first I had a single one, and they need a friend…which also isn’t on the care sheet. Although their not as bad as other pet stores, as in the location I got it from not the whole brand. They also rarely got sick. One of my guinea pigs, Oreo got sick once but otherwise they were healthy. My only two concerns are the misinformation on their care and the anxiety issues that Lulu had. Again I’m talking about my location each petsupplycanada is different.

Yes bossy.. my two girls are being ran from this tiny little Abby she has my girls so stressed out from her personality that it’s so cute how they bond with each other. Don’t let her fool you she has a burst of energy and very voicey. She’s a baby diva and 100/100 i will recommend this product in the near future maybe two-three. Oh and she will face dive her way into a pile of hay and popcorn along with the zoomies. She will scream for food, hay, treats, and attention very very squeaky. We bought two young Guinea pigs and they were perfect! Upon getting home to Drayton Valley, we noticed one had a lump on his neck. We phone and they told us we could bring him back so we did so the next day. We asked that after his vet check if he was healthy, that we would still like to re-adopt/purchase him. While we were there, we decided to take the third sibling home with us to keep the first one company. The amazing employee checked him for lumps, and he was good so we left. While we were stopped in a parking lot at a store, my spouse held him and ended up finding a lump that was missed. We took him immediately back and unfortunately he had to go to the vet as well. The first one we purchased is still healthy and amazing and we love him so much. We have told the staff that we would like to buy back both of the other siblings if they are sellable after the vet, and the associate we dealt with was so amazing. We will definitely be repeat customers for life.

I bought two female Guinea pigs 11/2020. I have had many Guinea pigs in past. These two fought a lot. Turns out the pink eyed one is blind and gets startled by the other. The black eyed one didn’t eat for a couple of days and then wouldn’t come out of cubby. She was on her side having seizures. I could not find a local vet. The one I found for emergency was $250 to walk in door. Wanted to put in IV for $1,000. Plus cost of blood tests. To euthanize was $165! They are considered “exotic pets”. Hay, litter, fresh salad stuff all adds up. Way too expensive for living 3-6 years!

Within 5 to 7 days after I got we realized a skin issue. Went back to the store and I was told that it has a ringworm. Something that is highly contagious to people. I got worried about my kids.
I will have to deep clean everything and loose the bedding I have on the cage.
The animal was left on the store for a vet visit but I haven’t received any document from leaving it there and no date to hear back from the vet or about the treatment.
The kids are missing the pet and wondering when it is coming back home!

Yes bossy.. my two girls are being ran from this tiny little Abby she has my girls so stressed out from her personality that it’s so cute how they bond with each other. Don’t let her fool you she has a burst of energy and very voicey. She’s a baby diva and 100/100 i will recommend this product in the near future maybe two-three. Oh and she will face dive her way into a pile of hay and popcorn along with the zoomies. She will scream for food, hay, treats, and attention very very squeaky. I have owned piggies for years and this checklist makes no sense habitat size should be 24”x48”x12” at least also no hay rack needed hay bag or piles of Timothy hay will do oxbow pellets for Guinea pigs only should not have to have treats of vitamin C they have to have lots of veggies and some fruit as a once in awhile snack lots of hides also a water bottle and food dish or two I like to use two because sometimes my girls are territorial. Hope that helps No Salt Licks they’re poisonous to piggy’s also wood chews aren’t necessary

Got this guinea pig for my daughter and it is awesome for her. She loves being able to hold it as he makes his noises. This is the family’s third guinea pig, and they are great family pets. They do need cleaning of the cage at least every 3-5 days but if you spot clean daily then you would only have to clean every week, to week and a half. Not a big deal,compared to dogs or cats which cost more to feed and house.

The ONLY reason I bought a guinea pig is to have company for the one we recently adopted from a friend. I’m not a huge fan of pet stores selling these animals especially since most of the associated products are aimed at children, and these animals (including hamsters, gerbils, etc.) are not really good pets for children. Guinea pigs require much care, including daily attention. The “habitats” sold are too small (guinea pigs need a minimum of 7 square feet and at least an hour a day outside their cage). The one we bought is a baby, and needs to be tamed – a long process requiring much patience. Be forewarned – they go to the “bathroom” a whole lot! Ensure you have at least 2 (they are social animals and most happy having company of their own kind), and make sure you have either 2 males or 2 females. Ours get along beautifully and they are super sweet animals.
If you do get them for a child, and ensure you have all your research done beforehand, guinea pigs will make lovely companions for them, and teach them care, compassion, and responsibility.

I don’t recommend buying from stores, try the SPCA, but I guess come here if no other option. My first piggy I got in 2019 that was on the SPCA site but located here. I got him when he was 1 and he’s 6 now. He is a bit more friendly but he is also getting closer, eating some food out of our hands. I love them both but will be happy when we are able to pick them up.

I made a vet appointment immediately within days it had transferred to his paws. The vet said he had ring worm it is easily treatable but the meds are $70 alone. Apparently this isn’t new that a lot of the pets are sick so be aware before purchasing.

I bought guinea pigs from here a very long time ago. One of them, Lulu, had bad anxiety from the start, likely because of where pet store animals come from. The care sheet has misinformation on it. Since I got it when I was young I didn’t understand them and they had to live in small cages their whole life. Also at first I had a single one, and they need a friend…which also isn’t on the care sheet. Although their not as bad as other pet stores, as in the location I got it from not the whole brand. They also rarely got sick. One of my guinea pigs, Oreo got sick once but otherwise they were healthy. My only two concerns are the misinformation on their care and the anxiety issues that Lulu had. Again I’m talking about my location each petsupplycanada is different.

I bought a pair of guinea pigs at the petsupplycanada on Macleod at the beginning of March. They were very cute but one guinea pig had a flower shaped right ear. The store clerk said that they came like that. The poor guinea pig looks like the supplier took a pair of scissors and cut a floral shape on its right ear. Both guinea pigs had flaky skin. I initially thought it was just normal skin shedding, and our dry Calgary weather. I did not inspect the guinea pigs in detail until about a week later because they say that new pets need time to adjust to their new environment and that we shouldn’t bother them (handle them). It was only when I was trimming their toenails and long fur that I noticed the dry scaly skin and the other guinea pig had a lot of discharge in its left ear. They are both going to the vet this week but I think petsupplycanada should re-imburse the purchase and/or pay for the vet bill because they did not come in healthy or in top shape. They have that 14 day policy which is strange because that’s about the same amount of time that it takes new pets to adjust to their new environment and then training them after so that they are not afraid of being handled.

I don’t recommend buying from stores, try the SPCA, but I guess come here if no other option. My first piggy I got in 2019 that was on the SPCA site but located here. I got him when he was 1 and he’s 6 now. He’s had 2 separate companions that have passed and I’ll probably be getting one soon from here since the SPCA doesn’t have any available piggies currently that will fit for him. They’re adorable, chubby, and silly…but maaaan will they break your heart when they die.

He wasn’t eating, using the bathroom, he wasn’t breathing right and he lost a lot of weight! I do not blame the store nor myself as I believe he was well taken care of, just a bad situation, I did return him as he we believe he may have needed medical attention soon and with it being a Sunday there were no vets open. I just really wish if he were to get better I could repurchase him 🙁

They are litter mates, and pigs are social little guys, and I think that atributes

I have owned piggies for years and this checklist makes no sense habitat size should be 24”x48”x12” at least also no hay rack needed hay bag or piles of Timothy hay will do oxbow pellets for Guinea pigs only should not have to have treats of vitamin C they have to have lots of veggies and some fruit as a once in awhile snack lots of hides also a water bottle and food dish or two I like to use two because sometimes my girls are territorial. Hope that helps No Salt Licks they’re poisonous to piggy’s also wood chews aren’t necessary

I bought two female Guinea pigs 11/2020. I have had many Guinea pigs in past. These two fought a lot. Turns out the pink eyed one is blind and gets startled by the other. The black eyed one didn’t eat for a couple of days and then wouldn’t come out of cubby. She was on her side having seizures. I could not find a local vet. The one I found for emergency was $250 to walk in door. Wanted to put in IV for $1,000. Plus cost of blood tests. To euthanize was $165! They are considered “exotic pets”. Hay, litter, fresh salad stuff all adds up. Way too expensive for living 3-6 years!

We got these adorable little characters last September from our local petsupplycanada in Glenmont, NY. Peppa (teddy) and Zoe (gray agouti) have been very happy and healthy. We have expanded our piggy family since then (the 3 additions were rescues/private adoptions), and their cage. I’ve heard a lot of complaints online about different pet stores not properly identifying their genders, or selling sick piggies. All the piggies I’ve seen in any petsupplycanada I’ve been in have looked very healthy. If you’re going to buy from a Pet store, I recommend petsupplycanada. 🙂

While we were there, we decided to take the third sibling home with us to keep the first one company. The amazing employee checked him for lumps, and he was good so we left. While we were stopped in a parking lot at a store, my spouse held him and ended up finding a lump that was missed. We took him immediately back and unfortunately he had to go to the vet as well. The first one we purchased is still healthy and amazing and we love him so much. We have told the staff that we would like to buy back both of the other siblings if they are sellable after the vet, and the associate we dealt with was so amazing. I bought a pair of guinea pigs at the petsupplycanada on Macleod at the beginning of March. They were very cute but one guinea pig had a flower shaped right ear. The store clerk said that they came like that. The poor guinea pig looks like the supplier took a pair of scissors and cut a floral shape on its right ear. Both guinea pigs had flaky skin. I initially thought it was just normal skin shedding, and our dry Calgary weather. I did not inspect the guinea pigs in detail until about a week later because they say that new pets need time to adjust to their new environment and that we shouldn’t bother them (handle them). It was only when I was trimming their toenails and long fur that I noticed the dry scaly skin and the other guinea pig had a lot of discharge in its left ear. They are both going to the vet this week but I think petsupplycanada should re-imburse the purchase and/or pay for the vet bill because they did not come in healthy or in top shape. They have that 14 day policy which is strange because that’s about the same amount of time that it takes new pets to adjust to their new environment and then training them after so that they are not afraid of being handled.

I have had GP’s for years, and my last 3 lived for over 10 years, and were from the
same local petsupplycanada! These guys came in, just little babies, and I made sure I got two!
They are litter mates, and pigs are social little guys, and I think that atributes
to longevity just like humans! They are getting along famously, and they love hay, unlike my last pigs, they loved carrots!

He was quiet and shy like they are but then my baby got sick with a respiratory infection, when I got him I figured he was just shy and quiet but he quickly he did become more playful with our other Guinea pig but about two days after him being comfortable he soon became sick. He wasn’t eating, using the bathroom, he wasn’t breathing right and he lost a lot of weight! I do not blame the store nor myself as I believe he was well taken care of, just a bad situation, I did return him as he we believe he may have needed medical attention soon and with it being a Sunday there were no vets open. I just really wish if he were to get better I could repurchase him 🙁

We got these adorable little characters last September from our local petsupplycanada in Glenmont, NY. Peppa (teddy) and Zoe (gray agouti) have been very happy and healthy. We have expanded our piggy family since then (the 3 additions were rescues/private adoptions), and their cage. I’ve heard a lot of complaints online about different pet stores not properly identifying their genders, or selling sick piggies. All the piggies I’ve seen in any petsupplycanada I’ve been in have looked very healthy. If you’re going to buy from a Pet store, I recommend petsupplycanada. 🙂

I bought guinea pigs from here a very long time ago. One of them, Lulu, had bad anxiety from the start, likely because of where pet store animals come from. The care sheet has misinformation on it. Since I got it when I was young I didn’t understand them and they had to live in small cages their whole life. Also at first I had a single one, and they need a friend…which also isn’t on the care sheet. Although their not as bad as other pet stores, as in the location I got it from not the whole brand. They also rarely got sick. One of my guinea pigs, Oreo got sick once but otherwise they were healthy. My only two concerns are the misinformation on their care and the anxiety issues that Lulu had. Again I’m talking about my location each petsupplycanada is different.

We bought two young Guinea pigs and they were perfect! Upon getting home to Drayton Valley, we noticed one had a lump on his neck. We phone and they told us we could bring him back so we did so the next day. We asked that after his vet check if he was healthy, that we would still like to re-adopt/purchase him. While we were there, we decided to take the third sibling home with us to keep the first one company. The amazing employee checked him for lumps, and he was good so we left. While we were stopped in a parking lot at a store, my spouse held him and ended up finding a lump that was missed. We took him immediately back and unfortunately he had to go to the vet as well. The first one we purchased is still healthy and amazing and we love him so much. We have told the staff that we would like to buy back both of the other siblings if they are sellable after the vet, and the associate we dealt with was so amazing. We will definitely be repeat customers for life.

The black eyed one didn’t eat for a couple of days and then wouldn’t come out of cubby. She was on her side having seizures. I could not find a local vet. The one I found for emergency was $250 to walk in door. Wanted to put in IV for $1,000. Plus cost of blood tests. To euthanize was $165! They are considered “exotic pets”. Hay, litter, fresh salad stuff all adds up. Way too expensive for living 3-6 years!

I have owned piggies for years and this checklist makes no sense habitat size should be 24”x48”x12” at least also no hay rack needed hay bag or piles of Timothy hay will do oxbow pellets for Guinea pigs only should not have to have treats of vitamin C they have to have lots of veggies and some fruit as a once in awhile snack lots of hides also a water bottle and food dish or two I like to use two because sometimes my girls are territorial. The ONLY reason I bought a guinea pig is to have company for the one we recently adopted from a friend. I’m not a huge fan of pet stores selling these animals especially since most of the associated products are aimed at children, and these animals (including hamsters, gerbils, etc.) are not really good pets for children. Guinea pigs require much care, including daily attention. The “habitats” sold are too small (guinea pigs need a minimum of 7 square feet and at least an hour a day outside their cage). The one we bought is a baby, and needs to be tamed – a long process requiring much patience. Be forewarned – they go to the “bathroom” a whole lot! Ensure you have at least 2 (they are social animals and most happy having company of their own kind), and make sure you have either 2 males or 2 females. Ours get along beautifully and they are super sweet animals.
If you do get them for a child, and ensure you have all your research done beforehand, guinea pigs will make lovely companions for them, and teach them care, compassion, and responsibility.

As a child, I always wanted to own a guinea pig and as I got older, I save my money and went to buy a guinea pig. I had this guinea pig for about six months now, and they’re very energetic and they love attention. They also have food but I learned not to overfeed them to keep them healthy.

Guinea pigs require much care, including daily attention. The “habitats” sold are too small (guinea pigs need a minimum of 7 square feet and at least an hour a day outside their cage). The one we bought is a baby, and needs to be tamed – a long process requiring much patience. Be forewarned – they go to the “bathroom” a whole lot! Ensure you have at least 2 (they are social animals and most happy having company of their own kind), and make sure you have either 2 males or 2 females. Ours get along beautifully and they are super sweet animals.
If you do get them for a child, and ensure you have all your research done beforehand, guinea pigs will make lovely companions for them, and teach them care, compassion, and responsibility.

I made a vet appointment immediately within days it had transferred to his paws. The vet said he had ring worm it is easily treatable but the meds are $70 alone. I bought guinea pigs from here a very long time ago. One of them, Lulu, had bad anxiety from the start, likely because of where pet store animals come from. The care sheet has misinformation on it. Since I got it when I was young I didn’t understand them and they had to live in small cages their whole life. Also at first I had a single one, and they need a friend…which also isn’t on the care sheet. Although their not as bad as other pet stores, as in the location I got it from not the whole brand. They also rarely got sick. One of my guinea pigs, Oreo got sick once but otherwise they were healthy. My only two concerns are the misinformation on their care and the anxiety issues that Lulu had. Again I’m talking about my location each petsupplycanada is different.

I bought a pair of guinea pigs at the petsupplycanada on Macleod at the beginning of March. They were very cute but one guinea pig had a flower shaped right ear. The store clerk said that they came like that. The poor guinea pig looks like the supplier took a pair of scissors and cut a floral shape on its right ear. Both guinea pigs had flaky skin. I initially thought it was just normal skin shedding, and our dry Calgary weather. I did not inspect the guinea pigs in detail until about a week later because they say that new pets need time to adjust to their new environment and that we shouldn’t bother them (handle them). It was only when I was trimming their toenails and long fur that I noticed the dry scaly skin and the other guinea pig had a lot of discharge in its left ear. They are both going to the vet this week but I think petsupplycanada should re-imburse the purchase and/or pay for the vet bill because they did not come in healthy or in top shape. They have that 14 day policy which is strange because that’s about the same amount of time that it takes new pets to adjust to their new environment and then training them after so that they are not afraid of being handled.

I got him when he was 1 and he’s 6 now. I do not blame the store nor myself as I believe he was well taken care of, just a bad situation, I did return him as he we believe he may have needed medical attention soon and with it being a Sunday there were no vets open. I just really wish if he were to get better I could repurchase him 🙁

They are litter mates, and pigs are social little guys, and I think that atributes

I have owned piggies for years and this checklist makes no sense habitat size should be 24”x48”x12” at least also no hay rack needed hay bag or piles of Timothy hay will do oxbow pellets for Guinea pigs only should not have to have treats of vitamin C they have to have lots of veggies and some fruit as a once in awhile snack lots of hides also a water bottle and food dish or two I like to use two because sometimes my girls are territorial. Hope that helps No Salt Licks they’re poisonous to piggy’s also wood chews aren’t necessary

I bought two female Guinea pigs 11/2020. I have had many Guinea pigs in past. These two fought a lot. Turns out the pink eyed one is blind and gets startled by the other. The black eyed one didn’t eat for a couple of days and then wouldn’t come out of cubby. She was on her side having seizures. I could not find a local vet. The one I found for emergency was $250 to walk in door. Wanted to put in IV for $1,000. Plus cost of blood tests. To euthanize was $165! They are considered “exotic pets”. Hay, litter, fresh salad stuff all adds up. Way too expensive for living 3-6 years!

We got these adorable little characters last September from our local petsupplycanada in Glenmont, NY. Peppa (teddy) and Zoe (gray agouti) have been very happy and healthy. We have expanded our piggy family since then (the 3 additions were rescues/private adoptions), and their cage. I’ve heard a lot of complaints online about different pet stores not properly identifying their genders, or selling sick piggies. All the piggies I’ve seen in any petsupplycanada I’ve been in have looked very healthy. If you’re going to buy from a Pet store, I recommend petsupplycanada. 🙂
