I received this tank kit from my parents (Christmas 2019) to replace my less then ideal “Portable Hermit Crab kit”. Now, to review the tank and it’s components: >>10 Gallon Terrarium with Sliding screen top– Love the sliding lid and it has a way to lock it so the crabs cannot escape. I ended up using clear packing tape to seal up the lid completely to keep the heat and humidity in. >>5lb Hermit Crab Sand White: Calcium Sand is bad for hermit crabs, I used it anyway–I ended up mixing that sand with 3 bags of Repti Sand Desert white. >>Hermit Crab Soil Brick: Excellent for hermit crabs, Haven’t used it yet because I had a bag of loose Eco Earth handy. >>Hermit crab mineral blocks: Haven’t used yet. >>Combo Repti-Rock water and food dishes: Using both for food. Bought an another “set” as well to use as food dishes too. (I bought them separately but they are an exact match to the set that was included in the kit) Bought the Zoo Med water dishes in medium size to use for water dishes. >>Hermit Crab care guide: Lots of good information in here>>Hermit crab water conditioner: I only used a couple times. Prime works way better >>Hermit crab salt water conditioner: I only used a couple of times–Instant Ocean works way better. >>Hermit crab food: Not the best for them.

Unfortunately this is not a habitable enclosure for hermit crabs. They require 10 gallons per crab, and pellet food is toxic to them. The substrate is wrong, and there’s not enough of it since they need 6 inches. This is a waste of money, crabs will survive in this

My son was gifted a hermit crab in a plastic bin. I wanted to upgrade and found this kit which has everything needed to start off. He loved it and the crabs seem to love all the extra space they now have.

This kit is great. It feels well made and the sliding lid cover is great and makes it easy to get into the tank. It also has a locking mechanism which makes escapes impossible. The molding on the bottom raises the tank up, which is perfect for an under tank heater. I did not use the supplied vita-sand and the brick of hermit soil. I used an eight quart bag of loose eco earth and it was the perfect amount of substrate for the size of this terrarium. Therefore, I cannot comment on the supplied substrates. Two things that I’d like to note….the first being that you’ll need to buy an extra dish for saltwater, a spray bottle, thermometer and hygrometer, heater, and of course you’ll need decorations and hiding places. Lastly, the stickers they placed on the outside front and back are obnoxious. They are extremely difficult to get off. I spent an hour scraping them off and I needed to use rubbing alcohol to remove the glue. Other than that, a 5 star product.

I have 2 hermit crabs and this is great for them the only reason I amgiving this 4 stars is because you shouldnt use sand for hermit crabs. It could block there gills and I had to get a little bit more eco earth because you should have a minimum of 6 inches of substrate. But other than that a great product

i give this a one star because not only this is bad for hermit crabs but people think its good i dont think u should buy this unless u want ur hermit crab to die in a week the sand is reallybad u should have ecoearth or play sand deep water pools and and 6inches of sand make sure to do research this is bad

What most companies that make hermit crab tanks fail to recognize is that as hermit crabs grow, they need more space, especially if you have more than one crab. This tank was great for my 4 baby hermit crabs at the time that I bought it. Now I have 2 medium sized crabs (the other two died- common molting problems) and it works wonderfully for them as well. Hermit crabs can end up getting very big if they are well taken care of (their life span is 70 years… 40 years? You can google search it if you don’t believe me). In addition, this tank has had no problems so far. The lock on the top works perfectly, and the smooth glass has prevented them from getting to the top of the tank (beware new hermit crab owners: they climb very well). The height of the tank is also great for almost all hermit crab furniture, plants, etc. My hermit crabs enjoy the much needed space, and ever since I bought this tank, they have been much happier than in their cramped (sadly, the size of a normally bought hermit crab holder) old one. This company did a great job with this product.

I bought this and it is WONDERFUL!!! I love the sliding roof, though if you have big crabs and a high climbing area you might want to put some thing on top of it because there’s no latch.

Bought this recently and the “sand” turned hard when wet, cementing my crab in his shell. Do not recommend.

Would this be able to hold water for fish? I’m just curious fish tanks are way to expensive and I’m curious if i can use this tank for fish

Disappointed please do be (verified owner)

Was encouraged by employee to buy the 10 gallon tank with included products. The box reads everything you need to start was there for hermit crabs. I did a bunch of research and now know the following
      First: Calcium sand causes impaction.
Second: it was a 10 gallon (only large enough for 1 hermit crab, not recommended.)
Third: Has no light source or heat pad included
Fourth: contains dishes that even the smallest hermit crab would be discontent with.
And Fifth, has no mention in their crab manual of the need of uva/uvb.

First off, hermit crabs (or any reptile) should have calcium sand as a substrate, this can cause impaction. The tank is also too small for a pair of hermit crabs (Hermit crabs are social). you will need to plug the screen openings to get enough humidity. Overall, not so good.

I have this tank. Most the stuff inside you’ll have to throw out it is not okay for hermit crabs. This tank I use for housing my hermies during the big tanks cleanings. It is really good holding tank for that purpose otherwise I won’t recommend. To small for a group of hermies permently

hi ! if you are reading this you probably already have a hermit crab, or thinking about getting one. please know that these guys require constant care and aren’t meant to be held often. just like if you purchased a fish you do not play with them, they are more of a looking-pet. i advise you to NOT handle your crab often, this can stress them out, and end up killing them. crabs should be kept in a 20 gallon long tank or more if you have 2 or more. if you DO have 3 crabs, the rule is 10 gallons per crab. PLEASE do NOT just get one crab. they are very social and should always have another friend(s) with them. make sure that you buy the same species because they “communicate” with eachother and should not be mixed with other species. these guys need to have daily mistings throughout their tank. and NEED to have at least 6 inches of ECOEARTH or PLAYSAND with ecoearth mixed so that they can dig. the ecoearth has to be moist at all times, so mist the tank daily, or even add a cup of water to ecoearth and mix it so it is moist. they NEED three dishes. one for saltwater, one for freshwater, and one for food. hermit crabs LOVE fruits and veggies and need a large variety of food. do not leave food in there for over 24-48 hours. and do not use metal bowls, this is harmful to ur crabbies:(. always provide a way out of the fresh and salt water dishes so crabs won’t drown. they LOVE to climb so make sure you have things they can climb on. and have places where they can hide like huts or igloos. according to how many crabs you have, have the same amount of igloos, or huts. most importantly have fun with your new animals. take care of them :)!!
